Senior Network Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Design Engineer to join a high-profile telecommunications and critical infrastructure program on an initial 12-month contract based in Melbourne with a hybrid working arrangement.

This role is suited to a highly accomplished network professional with extensive experience designing, integrating, and supporting large-scale carrier-grade and enterprise networks. You will act as a technical subject matter expert, leading network architecture, design, integration, testing, and optimization activities across complex multi-vendor environments. Working closely with engineering, operations, project delivery and business stakeholders, you will play a key role in delivering resilient, scalable and secure network solutions that meet strategic business objectives and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in IP/MPLS technologies, routing and switching, service provider environments, network transformation initiatives, and complex systems integration.

Duties of the Role

• Lead the architecture, design and implementation of large-scale network solutions across carrier-grade and enterprise environments.
• Develop network topologies, high-level and detailed designs that align with business requirements, technical standards and governance frameworks.
• Perform network integration, validation, proof-of-concept testing and operational readiness activities for new technologies and services.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex routing, switching and network performance issues while ensuring maximum availability and reliability.
• Collaborate with project teams, vendors and operational stakeholders to deliver network enhancements, upgrades and transformation programs
• Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including designs, implementation plans, operational procedures and support artefacts

Skills & Experience Required

• Minimum 5+ years' experience in network engineering, network design or network architecture roles within telecommunications, service provider or large enterprise environments.Expert-level knowledge of routing and switching technologies including BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS, LDP, RSVP-TE, VPLS, VPRN and Multicast.
• Proven experience designing and integrating complex multi-vendor network solutions, including carrier-grade IP/MPLS infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of network performance, capacity planning, resilience, security, QoS and service assurance principles.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical problem-solving initiatives and drive resolution of complex network and integration challenges.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and documentation skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.
