This role is ideal for a senior Network Engineer who would like to further develop their expertise in network architecture while remaining hands-on. The position combines approximately 70% engineering and 30% architecture responsibilities, offering the opportunity to contribute both strategically and operationally. Location: 1 day per week in Bern and 2 days per week in Zurich
Your Responsibilities
- Design, engineer, and continuously enhance the network architecture and network infrastructure
- Operate, troubleshoot, and optimize complex enterprise and data center network environments
- Automate network and infrastructure services using Infrastructure as Code principles
- Ensure the quality, stability, security, and performance of network services
- Evaluate, test, and integrate new technologies to support the evolution of the private cloud platform
- Create and maintain technical concepts, architecture documentation, and operational guidelines
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Architects, Development Teams, and Operations Teams to achieve project objectives
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline (ETH, University, University of Applied Sciences, Higher Technical College) or an equivalent qualification with relevant professional experience
- Alternatively, completed vocational training in IT (EFZ or equivalent) combined with relevant further education and several years of professional experience
- Several years of experience as a Network Engineer with architecture responsibilities or as a Network Architect in enterprise or data center environments
- Proven experience in designing and implementing network architectures, network segmentation, and security concepts
- Strong expertise in:
- Enterprise networking (Routing, Switching, Multicast, QoS)
- Routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
- Cisco Data Center Networking
- TCP/IP technologies (IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, NAT)
- Experience working with Linux in infrastructure environments
- Knowledge of networking technologies in virtualization and Kubernetes environments (e.g., Cilium)
- Strong skills in network automation using Ansible, Python, Bash, and Git
- Experience automating network and infrastructure services
- Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting complex enterprise networks
- Experience creating technical concepts and architecture documentation
- Fluent in German (C1 level) and English
- Knowledge of SDN, VXLAN, Firewalls, Load Balancing, and Network Security
- Cisco certification (CCNP or CCIE)
- Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification

- Contract Duration: Temporary assignment until 30 June 2027 with an option for permanent employment directly with the client.
