Build more than infrastructure. Help power the future of healthcare.

As Manager of IT Infrastructure and Digital Workplace, you will partner with executive leadership to advance strategy, strengthen resiliency, improve technology platforms, and maintain the modern infrastructure that keeps caregivers connected with one another, and patients, every day. At Salem Health, your deep experience in server operations, network engineering, and large systems will contribute to the continuous growth and improvement of one of Oregon's leading healthcare organizations.

This highly visible leadership role oversees approximately 35 team members across systems operations, networking, telecommunications, and the digital workplace. You will lead experienced technical teams, develop future leaders, and help drive innovation across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

Beyond operations, you will play a key role in forecasting infrastructure modernization, disaster recovery, cybersecurity preparedness, and enterprise resiliency initiatives, helping ensure Salem Health is ready for both today's challenges and tomorrow's opportunities.

Lead with Impact. Live with Balance.

Salem Health offers the opportunity to lead meaningful work while enjoying an exceptional quality of life. Located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, you will enjoy easy access to Oregon wine country, the Pacific Coast, mountain recreation, vibrant communities, highly rated schools, and Portland's amenities, all while benefiting from a more affordable and accessible lifestyle than many larger West Coast markets.

At Salem Health, you can build an influential career, develop talented teams, and make a lasting impact on healthcare technology while enjoying the balance that makes the Pacific Northwest such an exceptional place to call home.

What You Will Do

Strategic Leadership & Innovation

  • Partner with the Chief Technology Officer/Chief Information Security Officer to define and operationalize long‑term infrastructure and digital workplace strategies.
  • Lead strategy development for your area of oversight and drive execution across multiple initiatives.
  • Maintain and evolve strategy maps for infrastructure functions.
  • Stay current on workplace, infrastructure, and cloud trends; evaluate emerging technologies and integrate solutions aligned with business outcomes.
  • Advance organizational resiliency initiatives, including preparedness for natural disasters, cyber threats, and system recovery.

Team & Resource Leadership

  • Lead a department of approximately 35 employees, including three managers and technical teams spanning networking, systems operations, and the digital workplace.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and development pathways, especially for high‑tenure teams with diverse viewpoints and skill sets.
  • Foster a leadership culture centered on collaboration, listening, and frontline engagement; not top‑down directive management.
  • Support retention, succession planning, and healthy team dynamics.
  • Oversee consultants and vendor relationships across reporting departments.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure reliable, secure operation of all core IT infrastructure and services across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
  • Oversee platforms including compute, storage, telecom, WAN, networking, endpoints, unified communications, Microsoft 365, collaboration tools, and digital workplace solutions.
  • Manage capacity, resource allocation, and day‑to‑day service performance.
  • Lead and mature disaster recovery processes and testing.
  • Drive modernization of WAN technologies to increase resiliency and performance.
  • Identify and remediate technical debt through proactive monitoring and structured assessments.
  • Support the service desk through strong alignment, clear communication, and operational readiness.

Financial & Vendor Management

  • Oversee division budgets and capital planning activities.
  • Lead cost‑savings initiatives with measurable process and outcome metrics.
  • Ensure vendors meet SLA expectations and deliver cost‑effective, high‑quality services.

Security, Risk & Compliance

  • Partner with Information Security to ensure all infrastructure and workplace platforms align with cybersecurity standards.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission, HIPAA).
  • Support organization‑wide risk management practices and system hardening.

Continuous Improvement

  • Apply Lean/Kaizen methodologies to drive measurable improvements in operations, efficiency, and user experience.
  • Act as a Lean Sensei for multiple team members, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

Leadership On‑Call

  • Participate in the enterprise‑wide IS leadership on‑call rotation (approximately every 16 weeks).
  • Provide high‑level decision support for critical after‑hours incidents and escalations.

What We're Looking For

Technical & Strategic Abilities

  • Experience working in, and strong familiarity with, on-premises infrastructure footprints, including technical debt prioritization.
  • Ability to manage DR/resilience design when a critical system, such as the EMR, is hosted by a third party outside of the organization’s direct infrastructure control.
  • Strategic foresight to consider resilience and continuity when critical systems run on infrastructure owned outside the organization.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and align them with organizational strategy and real‑world constraints.
  • Familiarity with resiliency planning, disaster recovery, and enterprise risk management.
  • A balanced orientation toward technical depth, operational excellence, and people leadership.

Background & Experience

  • Progressive experience that demonstrates both technical competency and leadership capability, not exclusively long‑tenured management without hands‑on technical grounding.
  • Demonstrated success partnering across complex organizations, particularly in healthcare or other highly regulated industries.

Leadership & Behavioral Strengths

  • A collaborative, people‑centered leadership style that values input from frontline experts.
  • Ability to navigate differing opinions, especially among highly skilled, high‑tenure technical staff, with diplomacy and clarity.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills across clinical, technical, and operational teams.
  • Comfort balancing strategic vision with operational needs, jumping in where needed to “keep the lights on.”
  • High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and the ability to establish trust quickly.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Eight years of professional experience within technology, preferably in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Five years of experience in management of complex projects and implementation of systems.
  • Five years of experience managing projects and/or applications.
  • Three years of manager or director-level experience.
