Tasks
As a Senior Software Engineer (m/f/d/x) – Broadband CPE Triage, you will be responsible for the development / improvement of software for highly complex products and services, taking into account holistic business requirements and implications along the entire development process (lifecycle).
In your role as a Broadband CPE Triage Engineer, you analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex faults affecting broadband customer premises equipment such as modems, routers, and ONTs in DSL and fiber-optic networks. You perform L2/L3 troubleshooting as well as performance, configuration, log, and packet analyses, and work closely with Field Service, the NOC, and equipment vendors.
Your main tasks will also include:
- You work closely with requesters (e.g. product owners) in the analysis and implementation of requirements and will also provide advice at management level
- You prepare and document software solution designs
- You define standards for system tests/test automation and take over the installation and configuration of software for complex products and services
- You support team members from fault analysis through to fault clearance and also provide technical support to other teams for the products and services they manage
- You work closely with other teams in an international environment and manage projects with strategic relevance
You are characterized by detailed company-specific knowledge or exceptional specialist knowledge and skills:
- Extensive experience with traditional and agile forms of collaboration, particularly with Field Service, the NOC, vendors, and other technical departments, combined with outstanding experience in leading strategically focused projects in the telecommunications or ISP environment
- Exceptional knowledge of technologies and methods for DSL and fiber-optic networks, particularly ADSL, VDSL, GPON, and FTTH, as well as strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, NAT, VLAN, PPPoE, and WLAN troubleshooting
- Exceptional knowledge of relevant description languages for network and system configurations, as well as object-oriented programming languages
- Hands-on experience with tools for development, change and configuration management, as well as diagnostic and monitoring tools, particularly Wireshark, including the structured analysis of log and packet data
- Strong experience in preparing structured root cause analyses and technical documentation; ideally, knowledge of TR-069 or WebPA and experience working with broadband CPE from different vendors
- Ability and willingness to set up appropriate lab and test environments to reliably reproduce technical issues, systematically isolate root causes, and validate Engineering and Formal Builds containing implemented fixes
- You use AI in your day-to-day work and independently develop the skills required to use related tools effectively and efficiently
- Very good German and English language skills (minimum C1 level in each language), combined with a willingness to travel and collaborate across Deutsche Telekom’s different national companies
