Cloud Infrastructure Engineer | Leipzig one day on-site | E-Commmerce | VMWare to OpenStack
AI Futures are exclusively supporting a search for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer for one of the largest and fastest-growing e-commerce retailers in Germany, growing at 30% year-on-year, and investing seriously in the technology infrastructure that will carry it through the next phase of growth.
The Opportunity
This is a greenfield mandate with real budget and full architectural authority. This is not a patch. You are designing a production-grade OpenStack private cloud from the ground up - VM replacement strategy, network architecture, storage, compute, and the AI agent layer that sits on top of it. Work most infrastructure engineers never get.
Your responsibilities
- Design and build a production-grade OpenStack private cloud from the ground up - full replacement of the existing VM environment, not an extension of it. Architecture, topology, compute, networking, and storage are yours to own.
- Define the infrastructure strategy that supports a fast-growing e-commerce operation at scale - reliability, performance, and the headroom to grow into without rebuilding again.
- Design and integrate AI agents into daily operational workflows - inventory decisions, fulfilment logic, operational automation - embedding intelligence into the infrastructure layer rather than bolting it on top.
- Work directly with the VP of Technology and Engineering to shape the technical roadmap - you will have direct access to decision-making.
- Build the documentation, standards, and engineering practices that give the wider IT team a foundation to build on as the function grows.
- Bring a startup mindset to a scaling business: move quickly, make decisions with the information available, and own the outcomes of those decisions end to end.
Your Profile
- Solid infrastructure engineering fundamentals - compute, networking, storage, virtualisation. You understand how these layers interact and where things break under load.
- OpenStack experience is desirable but not a hard requirement. What matters is the drive and capability to become the expert.
- Experience designing or operating private cloud or on-premise virtualisation environments.
- Familiarity with Linux administration, networking fundamentals.
- Exposure to automation and infrastructure-as-code tooling - Ansible, Terraform, or comparable.
- German at C1 level or above - this is a requirement for operating effectively in the team and stakeholder environment.
What you get
Competitive salary with variable bonus package.
Hybrid working with flexibility - one day in the office per week.
Direct VP-level access.
Greenfield infrastructure programme with budget priority.
A growing business at 30% YoY.
Opportunity to build high-end infrastructure environment a leading e-commerce operation runs on for the next decade.
If interested please apply with an up-to-date CV.
