The key responsibilities of this Network Computer or Software Engineer include, but are not limited to:
- Design and develop rugged electronics, considering the unique challenges of harsh environments, such as extreme temperatures, humidity, vibration, and electromagnetic interference.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers, to define product requirements and specifications for rugged electronics.
- Conduct feasibility studies and make recommendations on the hardware and software architecture of networking solutions, taking into account factors like power consumption, performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop and implement embedded software for rugged electronics, including device drivers, protocols, and management interfaces, ensuring compatibility, reliability, and security specifically as it relates to Ethernet Switch functionality.
- Conduct thorough testing and verification of software modules, identifying and resolving any issues or performance bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and production teams to ensure seamless transition from design to mass production, addressing any manufacturing challenges and ensuring the highest quality standards.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in networking technologies, industry trends, and standards, and apply this knowledge to enhance the performance and functionality of our rugged electronics.
- Provide technical support and expertise to internal teams, customers, and partners regarding hardware deployments, troubleshooting, and maintenance of rugged electronics.
- Participate in the documentation process, including creating technical specifications, user guides, and application notes for rugged electronics.
Salary: $65,000 - $110,000
The Person
The key skills and qualities of a Network Computer or Software Engineer at Amphenol Military High Speed:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Network Engineer, with a focus on software design of rugged networking equipment, preferably related to Ethernet.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols, including Ethernet, VLAN, Spanning Tree, QoS, SNMP, and TCP/IP.
- Experience in embedded software development using programming languages like C/C++ and familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Knowledge of network security principles, encryption algorithms, and secure protocols.
- Familiarity with industrial and ruggedization standards (e.g., MIL-STD, IP rating, shock/vibration resistance) is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical challenges.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Attention to detail, with a focus on delivering high-quality products and solutions.
