IT Infrastructure Specialist

Spencer Recruitment is partnering with a leading national organisation to recruit an experienced IT Infrastructure Specialist.

This is a broad and influential technology role combining IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, information governance and responsible AI.

Reporting to the Operations & Facilities Manager, the successful candidate will oversee the resilience, security and ongoing development of our partner’s IT infrastructure. They will also play a leading role in the organisation’s preparations for the EU AI Act and NIS2.

Key responsibilities

IT infrastructure and cloud

• Manage Windows Server and/or Linux environments.
• Administer Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, including identity, access and group policy.
• Support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive.
• Manage VMware or Hyper-V virtualisation environments.
• Oversee enterprise storage, backups, recovery processes and data availability.
• Manage LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, routing, switching and firewall environments.
• Support Azure and/or AWS infrastructure across compute, storage, identity, networking and security.
• Monitor infrastructure performance, capacity, availability and cloud costs.

Cybersecurity and information governance

• Support cybersecurity, patch management and vulnerability-remediation programmes.
• Contribute to information-security policies, standards and procedures.
• Coordinate supplier assurance, security due diligence and third-party risk reviews.
• Support security monitoring and incident-response readiness.
• Contribute to organisational preparations for NIS2.
• Support internal and external audits, risk assessments and corrective actions.
• Maintain disaster-recovery and business-continuity plans.
• Produce clear technical documentation and architecture diagrams.

Responsible AI and governance

• Lead the development of our partner’s responsible AI governance framework.
• Support organisational compliance and readiness for the EU AI Act.
• Chair the organisation’s AI Working Group.
• Maintain an inventory of AI tools, systems and models.
• Conduct AI risk, impact and compliance assessments.
• Coordinate approval processes for new AI technologies and use cases.
• Lead AI literacy and awareness initiatives across the organisation.

Experience and qualifications

Candidates should have:

• A relevant third-level qualification in computer science, information technology, information systems, software engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong experience managing IT infrastructure, servers, networks and cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, information governance and relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Strong problem-solving, documentation and stakeholder-management skills.
• The ability to take ownership of technical decisions and communicate effectively with non-technical colleagues and external providers.

Relevant certifications or training in Microsoft Azure, VMware, CompTIA Security+, ISO 27001, AI governance or Responsible AI would be particularly relevant.
