Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer

Manchester (Hybrid – 2-3 days onsite)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer to join a growing technology organisation undergoing a significant infrastructure and cloud transformation.

This is a newly created, hands-on technical leadership role where you'll work closely with the Head of IT Operations to drive major infrastructure projects, modernise legacy systems and act as the senior escalation point for the internal IT team.

We're looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, leading technical change and delivering enterprise infrastructure projects from concept through to completion.

The Role

You'll play a key role in shaping and delivering the organisation's infrastructure strategy, leading business-critical projects while ensuring a secure, reliable and scalable IT environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead the migration of on-premises Windows infrastructure to Microsoft Azure and cloud services.
• Take ownership of end-to-end infrastructure transformation projects, from technical design through implementation and handover.
• Deliver hybrid cloud and Microsoft 365 migration projects, including Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online and Intune.
• Modernise identity and endpoint management using Windows Autopilot, Microsoft Autopatch and Microsoft Intune.
• Lead network modernisation initiatives, including switching infrastructure, Meraki Access Manager, FortiClient EMS, LAN/WAN and wireless technologies.
• Manage and optimise Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Exchange Online and SharePoint Online.
• Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and networking issues.
• Drive automation and continuous improvement using PowerShell and modern management tools.
• Lead backup, disaster recovery and business continuity improvements.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards and operational procedures.
• Mentor colleagues and provide technical leadership across the infrastructure team.
• Deputise for the Head of IT Operations when required.

About You

We're looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer who has personally led and owned enterprise infrastructure transformation projects, rather than simply supporting them.

You'll have experience in:

• Leading hybrid on-premises Windows domain to cloud migration projects.
• Delivering infrastructure modernisation programmes across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
• Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Windows Server and Exchange Online.
• Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and identity management.
• Enterprise networking including switches, VLANs, firewalls, LAN/WAN and wireless infrastructure.
• Microsoft Autopilot, Microsoft Autopatch and modern endpoint management.
• Acting as the senior technical lead for infrastructure projects and major incidents.
• Supporting Windows, macOS, iOS and Android devices.
• Infrastructure automation using PowerShell or similar scripting tools.
• Backup, disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

Desirable

• Microsoft Azure or Microsoft 365 certifications.
• Cisco CCNA or CCNP.
• Cisco Meraki experience.
• Fortinet certifications or FortiClient EMS experience.
• Cyber Essentials experience.
• Knowledge of secure-by-design principles and infrastructure security best practices
