Role Summary
IP Engineer – Job Description
IP Engineer is responsible for the integration, configuration, migration, troubleshooting, and operational support of the IP transport network. The role includes executing implementation activities, L2/L3 traffic migration, software upgrades, and ensuring network stability while meeting customer SLAs and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Router integration, commissioning, and configuration activities.
- Configure and validate routers, switches, and IP network elements.
- Execute planned implementation activities as per approved Work Instructions (WIs) and CRQs.
- Execute L2 to L3 traffic migration and traffic shifting activities with minimal service impact.
- Perform Layer 2 (L2) to Layer 3 (L3) migration, including VLAN migration, VRF migration, and routing cutover activities.
- Coordinate traffic shifting between L2 and L3 networks during migration windows.
- Perform pre-checks, implementation, post-checks, and service validation.
- Troubleshoot IP network issues and restore services within SLA.
- Support software upgrades, configuration changes, migrations, and rollback activities.
- Perform routing protocol configuration and validation (OSPF, BGP, Static Routing).
- Configure and validate VLANs, VRFs, QoS, ACLs, and IP addressing.
- Coordinate with Field Engineers, ENOC/NOC, Design, and Customer teams during implementation.
- Prepare implementation reports and update project trackers.
- Ensure compliance with customer processes, quality standards, and change management procedures.
- Participate in technical reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and continuous process improvements.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking.
- Routing Protocols: OSPF, BGP, Static Routing.
- MPLS fundamentals.
- VLAN, VRF, QoS, ACL configuration.
- IPv4 and IPv6.
- Experience with L2/L3 network migration and traffic shifting.
- Cisco routers and switches (NCS540, ASR series, Catalyst).
- Basic Linux commands.
- Network troubleshooting using Ping, Traceroute, SSH, Telnet, etc.
- Understanding of SNMP, Syslog, and Network Monitoring tools.
- Experience with Cisco IOS-XR is preferred.

- Good communication and stakeholder management.
- Ability to work in a Australian shift hours.
- Good documentation skills.
- 6+ years of experience in IP Networking or Telecom.
- Experience in Transport/IP Integration projects.
- Exposure to telecom environments (4G/5G/FWA) is an added advantage.
- Cisco CCNA/CCNP certification is preferred.
