Senior Low Latency Network Engineer | Systematic Hedge Fund | London

A leading systematic hedge fund are seeking a Senior Low Latency Network Engineer to help design and evolve the network infrastructure underpinning its global electronic trading and research platforms.

The firm is making significant investment across its low latency networking estate, creating a rare opportunity to help shape the next generation of exchange connectivity, automation, and ultra-low latency infrastructure. As the environment continues to scale globally, you'll work on complex engineering challenges spanning network architecture, performance optimisation, and platform reliability, with genuine ownership over how the estate evolves.

This is a highly engineering-focused role rather than a traditional operational networking position. Working alongside software engineers, infrastructure specialists, and quantitative researchers, you'll design solutions for business-critical trading infrastructure, drive automation across the platform, and influence the future direction of one of the industry's most sophisticated network environments.

The Role

  • Design, build, and optimise highly available network infrastructure supporting low latency trading and research platforms
  • Engineer and enhance network infrastructure solutions across a global colocation estate, supporting connectivity to exchanges and trading venues
  • Drive improvements in network performance, resilience, and latency across business-critical infrastructure
  • Design and deliver new colocation deployments, expanding connectivity into global exchanges and emerging markets
  • Contribute to the evolution of next-generation low latency technologies, including FPGA and emerging ASIC-based trading platforms
  • Develop automation and operational tooling using Python and infrastructure-as-code principles to improve deployment, scalability, and operational efficiency
  • Build monitoring, telemetry, and observability capabilities to improve platform reliability and reduce operational overhead
  • Partner closely with software engineering, infrastructure, and quantitative research teams to deliver networking capabilities that directly support trading performance
  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies and influence long-term architecture, engineering standards, and best practices
  • Participate in a shared on-call rota supporting critical production infrastructure

Requirements

  • Experience engineering low latency network infrastructure within hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, exchanges, or investment banks
  • Strong experience designing and supporting colocation network infrastructure
  • Excellent routing and switching knowledge across Arista and/or Cisco platforms
  • Strong understanding of BGP, EVPN/VXLAN, multicast, and modern datacentre networking
  • Strong Python automation skills with experience building operational tooling and Infrastructure-as-Code workflows
  • Experience engineering resilient, highly available network platforms within mission-critical environments
  • Exposure to FPGA or ASIC-based trading infrastructure would be advantageous
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Kubernetes environments
  • Knowledge of precision timing technologies such as PTP, PPS, GPS, or White Rabbit would be beneficial

Company Highlights

  • Technology-led culture where engineering is viewed as a competitive advantage rather than a support function
  • Significant investment across low latency networking, compute, and automation, creating a strong pipeline of greenfield engineering projects
  • Opportunity to solve some of the industry's most challenging networking problems within a globally distributed trading environment
  • Genuine ownership from day one, with the ability to influence architecture, tooling, and the future direction of the platform
  • Highly automated environment with a strong focus on software-defined infrastructure, Infrastructure-as-Code, and engineering excellence
  • Collaborative culture with close interaction between infrastructure, software engineering, and quantitative research teams
  • Excellent work-life balance, rarely found within front-office trading technology
  • Strong compensation and comprehensive benefits package including an extensive annual leave allowance, free daily lunch, comprehensive healthcare, life assurance, and more
