Duties And Responsibilities
- Implement and support enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, firewall, network access control, cloud connectivity, and SD-WAN technologies.
- Independently complete network engineering assignments and tactical infrastructure projects with limited supervision.
- Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, VPN services, and related network platforms.
- Implement production network changes, including:
- VLANs, trunks, port channels, and switch-port configurations
- Static and dynamic routing changes
- Firewall policies, NAT rules, security zones, and DMZ configurations
- Site-to-site and remote-access VPN configurations
- Wireless SSIDs, authentication policies, and access controls
- Network Access Control and AAA integrations
- WAN circuit activations, migrations, and failover configurations
- Troubleshoot complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 network incidents involving routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, internet connectivity, and application traffic flows.
- Perform packet-level and protocol-level analysis to identify root causes of performance, availability, and connectivity issues.
- Lead or participate in network infrastructure projects such as office openings, site relocations, hardware refreshes, network migrations, circuit upgrades, and technology deployments.
- Coordinate circuit installations, upgrades, cross-connects, handoffs, testing, migrations, terminations, and outage remediation with carriers, local exchange carriers, and data-center providers.
- Develop implementation plans, test plans, rollback procedures, validation steps, and supporting documentation for network changes.
- Maintain accurate logical and physical network diagrams, IP address documentation, circuit inventories, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
- Monitor network availability, capacity, performance, and configuration compliance using SolarWinds Orion or similar network-management platforms.
- Review monitoring alerts and performance trends to identify recurring issues, capacity constraints, and opportunities for proactive improvement.
- Ensure network-device configurations are backed up, standardized, and maintained in accordance with organizational security and operational requirements.
- Perform root-cause analysis for significant incidents and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Provide technical guidance to service desk, infrastructure, security, application, and site-support teams for network-related issues.
- Coordinate and validate work performed by telecommunications carriers, managed service providers, cabling vendors, field technicians, and other third parties.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide escalation support for critical network incidents as required.
- Follow established Change Management, Incident Management, Problem Management, and configuration-management processes.
- Contribute to network standards, reference architectures, lifecycle planning, resiliency improvements, and technology evaluations.
- Strong working knowledge of enterprise TCP/IP networking, including subnetting, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, NAT, and packet flow.
- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting Layer 2 technologies such as:
- VLANs
- Spanning Tree Protocol
- Link aggregation and port channels
- MAC address learning
- Switching loops and broadcast-domain issues
- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting Layer 3 technologies, including static routing and dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
- Experience supporting Cisco, Juniper, Meraki, or comparable enterprise routing and switching platforms.
- Experience managing enterprise firewalls, security policies, network address translation, security zones, and site-to-site or remote-access VPNs.
- Experience with enterprise wireless networking, including 802.11 standards, SSIDs, authentication, roaming, interference, and wireless troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of Network Access Control and AAA technologies, including 802.1X, RADIUS, and TACACS+.
- Experience supporting WAN connectivity such as internet circuits, MPLS, broadband, private connectivity, or SD-WAN.
- Ability to use technical troubleshooting tools such as packet captures, ping, traceroute, route analysis, interface statistics, logs, and network-monitoring platforms.
- Experience with network monitoring and configuration-management tools such as SolarWinds Orion or comparable products.
- Ability to create and maintain network diagrams using Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of network resiliency, redundancy, high availability, and failover concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical problems and drive them through resolution.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to distinguish between network, security, systems, application, carrier, and end-user issues.
- Ability to assess risk, prioritize technical work, and implement changes safely in production environments.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Strong documentation habits and attention to configuration accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, incidents, and operational priorities without losing ownership or follow-through.
- Comfortable working with geographically distributed teams, vendors, carriers, and managed service providers.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to share technical knowledge with other members of the IT organization.
- Available to work on Time Zone AMER at 07.00am EST or Time Zone EMEA at 07.00am GTM
- Four or more years of hands-on experience in an enterprise Network Engineering, Network Operations, or Infrastructure Engineering role.
- Demonstrated experience independently configuring and supporting production routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, or SD-WAN platforms.
- Experience implementing production network changes using documented implementation, validation, and rollback procedures.
- Experience troubleshooting enterprise network incidents beyond basic connectivity and end-user support.
- Experience supporting multi-site network environments.
- Experience coordinating circuit installations, upgrades, migrations, handoffs, and outage remediation with telecommunications carriers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant professional experience.
- CCNP Enterprise, JNCIS, PCNSE, Fortinet FCP, Meraki certification, or another comparable professional-level networking certification.
- ITIL 4 Foundation certification or practical experience working within formal Change, Incident, and Problem Management processes.
- Experience supporting globally distributed network environments.
- Experience with public-cloud networking in AWS or Microsoft Azure
- Experience with network automation, scripting, APIs, infrastructure as code, or configuration-management tools.
- Familiarity with network-security concepts, segmentation, zero-trust architecture, and security-control implementation.
- Experience participating in network architecture, capacity planning, hardware lifecycle planning, or technology-selection initiatives.
- Independently implement standard network changes and infrastructure deployments.
- Resolve complex network incidents using structured troubleshooting and evidence-based analysis.
- Take technical ownership of assigned projects from planning through implementation and documentation.
- Improve network reliability by identifying recurring problems and implementing permanent corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate documentation and follow disciplined production-change practices.
- Effectively coordinate technical activities across internal teams, vendors, carriers, and service providers
- Hands-on firewall configuration and management experience
- Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 network protocols
- Ability to confidently answer technical questions related to firewalls
- Prior experience working as a Network Engineer
- Broader network engineering expertise beyond support-level responsibilities
