Network Operations Engineer

Optomi, in partnership with our client, are seeking an IOC Network Operations Specialist to join a growing infrastructure operations team supporting mission-critical cloud and data center environments.

This role is ideal for a network professional with experience in data center operations, Fortinet technologies, and advanced network troubleshooting who thrives in a fast-paced, 24/7 operations environment.

As part of the Infrastructure Operations Center (IOC), you'll provide Tier 2 support for complex network incidents, maintain cloud network availability, and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure reliable service delivery across enterprise and customer environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide Tier 2 escalation support for complex cloud network incidents while meeting SLA requirements.
• Monitor network performance and availability, proactively identifying and resolving service degradations.
• Troubleshoot switching, routing, firewall, and interconnect issues to restore services quickly.
• Lead technical investigations and contribute to root cause analysis for major incidents.
• Execute approved network changes following established change management processes.
• Support hybrid cloud connectivity, backbone infrastructure, and customer interconnections.
• Partner with Tier 3 engineers, vendors, carriers, and internal teams to resolve escalated issues.
• Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and incident records.
• Mentor Tier 1 support staff and Data Center Technicians through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Participate in on-call rotations and major incident response activities.

Required Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Computer Technology, Networking, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• 2–5 years of experience in network operations, data centers, or similar technical environments.
• Experience supporting and developing teams of technicians responsible for computer hardware maintenance and repair.
• Hands-on experience or certifications with Fortinet technologies, including FortiGate and FortiSwitch.
• Candidates with comparable Cisco Nexus and Firepower experience are encouraged to apply.
• Core networking knowledge equivalent to CCNA.
• Computer hardware troubleshooting skills equivalent to CompTIA A+.
• Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed.

• Data center operations experience supporting fiber optics, network switches, PDUs, and related infrastructure.
• Understanding of safe work practices in live data center environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.
• High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and urgency.
