Infrastructure Services

The purpose of Infrastructure services is to ensure our services and systems are hosted effectively, securely and efficiently.

The function of Infrastructure services brings all network and hosting infrastructure into a single team which will provide a multi-skilled 24/7 Infra Operations team organised by function and focussed on supporting continual improvement.

The teams are divided into four core areas providing technical and service management expertise:

  • hosting
  • cloud centre of excellence
  • connectivity
  • central capabilities

Services are delivered to internal customers and NHS organisations.

We are seeking a Technical Consultant - Network Engineer to provide technical support, administer and make changes on the data network in LAN, WAN, Wireless and Security environments, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar discipline, to join the infrastructure team. The role is an exciting mix of BAU and project work where you will have a real impact on the future of the organisations networking estate.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

The role will include support to existing and new systems and services. The provided support will be at varied levels of scope and complexity, ranging from small changes tracked in our issue management application to managing larger projects involving other team members and stakeholders from other teams.

This role will also contribute to internal team projects to support and enhance the existing services, such as hardware refreshes, performance improvements, business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.

NHS England has a wide range of statutory functions, responsibilities and regulatory powers. These are focused on supporting the wider NHS to deliver high quality care, as well as doing those things that are best done once for the whole NHS.

Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.

If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

We cannot offer visa sponsorship for any vacancies.
