This position is designed as Hybrid.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Associate's degree in Information Technology and three years of experience in LAN/WAN or server support. Graduate coursework or relevant experience may substitute per policy.

Overview

Under direction, this classification supports day-to-day operations and troubleshooting of network systems in a data center environment. Installs, maintains, and monitors hardware, software, and network configurations to ensure system performance and security. Entry-level role in the Network Data Center Operations Administrator series. Performs diagnostics, configuration backups, and preventive maintenance. Escalates complex issues and supports implementation of network solutions. This class differs from Network Operations Administrator-Advanced in that an incumbent of the latter plans, coordinates, and implements enterprise network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.

Responsibilities

Functional Job Responsibilities:

  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure, including Cisco routers, switches, wireless devices, and firewalls.
  • 2. Apply CCNA-level knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, trunking, STP, routing protocols, subnetting, NAT, DHCP, and network security.
  • 3. Administer Cisco ASA firewalls, including access control lists, NAT rules, object groups, security policies, and site-to-site or remote-access VPNs.
  • 4. Monitor network availability, performance, bandwidth utilization, and security events using network management and monitoring tools.
  • 5. Diagnose and resolve connectivity, routing, switching, VPN, firewall, and application-access issues across LAN and WAN environments.
  • 6. Configure and support Cisco switch ports, VLAN assignments, port security, EtherChannel, and inter-VLAN routing.
  • 7. Perform firewall rule reviews and implement approved changes while following organizational security and change-management procedures.
  • 8. Maintain network documentation, including diagrams, IP address assignments, equipment inventories, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • 9. Back up network device configurations and assist with firmware upgrades, hardware replacements, lifecycle management, and disaster-recovery planning.
  • 10. Collaborate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, application, and support teams to investigate incidents and improve network reliability.
  • 11. Provide technical support and escalation assistance for complex network-related issues.
  • 12. Follow network security best practices and assist with vulnerability remediation, access reviews, and compliance requirements.
  • 13. Communicate clearly with technical and nontechnical stakeholders regarding outages, maintenance activities, risks, and resolutions.
  • 14. Maintain or actively pursue Cisco CCNA certification and stay current with Cisco networking and security technologies.
