Job Title: Low-Latency Network Engineer (Trading Infrastructure)

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

We’re hiring an experienced Network Engineer to design, build, and operate ultra‑low‑latency network infrastructure that powers electronic trading and exchange connectivity. You’ll own the network stack end‑to‑end—from physical design and exchange cross‑connects through routing, multicast, automation, and performance tuning—working closely with traders, developers, and SREs in a 24/5 production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain low‑latency LAN/WAN and data centre networks for trading systems, including colocation sites and exchange points of presence.
  • Own routing and switching design (BGP, OSPF, multicast/PIM, IGMP) with a focus on microsecond‑level performance and resilience.
  • Implement and optimise exchange connectivity: cross‑connects, leased lines, dark fibre, and microwave/optical paths where applicable; manage peering and BGP policies for market data and order traffic.
  • Build network automation and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (e.g., Ansible/Salt, Python) for repeatable builds, configuration management, and change control.
  • Develop monitoring, telemetry, and alerting (SNMP, streaming telemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, time‑series DBs) with deep packet analysis (tcpdump, Wireshark, Corvil/ExaNIC) to identify latency bottlenecks.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Expert‑level knowledge of Layer 2/3 protocols: BGP, OSPF, multicast
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Arista and/or Cisco in production trading or large‑scale DC environments.
  • Deep understanding of low‑latency design patterns: spine‑leaf, DCI, optical transport (DWDM), and exchange colocation architectures.
  • Proficiency with Linux networking and performance tuning; comfortable troubleshooting server‑side network issues.
  • Practical scripting/automation skills (Python, Bash) and experience with configuration management (Ansible/Salt) and Git‑based workflows.
  • Experience with precision timing
  • Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex network behaviour to traders, developers, and non‑technical stakeholders.
