Role Description The PDH/SDH/MPLS-TP Support Engineer is a full-time role based in the Manchester Area, United Kingdom, with a hybrid work model that allows a mix of on-site and work-from-home arrangements. Day-to-day responsibilities include providing technical support for PDH, SDH, and MPLS-TP transport networks, diagnosing and resolving faults, and performing root cause analysis to maintain high network reliability. The role involves handling customer support requests, monitoring network performance, and coordinating incident resolution with internal teams and external vendors. The engineer will create and maintain technical documentation, contribute to change management activities, and support network upgrades, configurations, and acceptance testing. Regular interaction with customers and stakeholders is expected, ensuring clear communication, timely updates, and adherence to service-level agreements.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong Troubleshooting and Technical Support skills, particularly in PDH, SDH, and MPLS-TP environments.
  • Candidates should possess Customer Support and Customer Service skills to manage inquiries, incidents, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Candidates should possess Operating Systems knowledge (e.g., Linux, UNIX, and Windows) relevant to network management platforms and support tools.
  • Candidates should possess familiarity with telecom transport technologies, network protocols, and NMS/EMS platforms used in mission-critical and broadband networks.
  • Relevant experience in carrier-grade or enterprise network operations, including incident, problem, and change management, is strongly beneficial.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to work in hybrid teams and manage priorities under time pressure, are important.
  • Industry certifications (e.g., CCNA/CCNP, or equivalent telecom certifications) and a degree or diploma in Telecommunications, Networking, or a related field are advantageous.
