Project Overview

We are seeking an experienced Smart Hands / Network Field Engineer to provide onsite support for the deployment and installation of Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs). The engineer will work closely with remote engineering teams to ensure a seamless implementation, successful cutover, and accurate completion of all onsite activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Stage and prepare all equipment before implementation.
• Install and rack two (2) Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs).
• Complete power and network cross-connects.
• Verify switch port availability and physical network connectivity.
• Install and connect required SFP modules, fiber patch cords, and Ethernet patch cables.
• Provide onsite Smart Hands support during implementation and cutover.
• Coordinate with remote engineering teams throughout the deployment.
• Validate hardware installation and end-to-end physical connectivity.
• Remove and decommission legacy WLC equipment (where applicable).
• Label, package, and prepare decommissioned equipment for return shipment.
• Capture site photographs and provide completion updates upon request.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong Rack & Stack experience.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (9800 Series) deployments.
• Smart Hands / Remote Hands support experience.
• Network cabling, structured cabling, and fiber connectivity.
• Basic network troubleshooting and connectivity verification.
• Excellent communication skills for coordination with remote engineers.

Required Tools

The engineer must bring the following tools and equipment:

• Standard installation toolkit
• Laptop with PuTTY and TFTP Server installed
• Console cable (USB-A to USB-B)
• Four (4) Ethernet/LAN cables
• One (1) Ethernet crossover cable
• USB/Thumb drive containing the required IOS image
• Reliable Internet connectivity (Hotspot, Broadband, or Wi-Fi Dongle)
• 6-foot ladder

Project Deliverables

✅ Installation and rack mounting of two Cisco Catalyst 9800 WLCs

✅ Physical power and network connectivity successfully verified

✅ Legacy WLC equipment removed, labeled, and prepared for return shipment (if applicable)

✅ Site completion report submitted

✅ Site photographs provided (upon request)

✅ Final implementation status communicated to the remote engineering team
