Sr. Technical Support Engineer, Industrial Networking
Compensation: $108,000-$118,000/year base + bonus: $120k-$132k total comp
Location: Brea, CA (hybrid, minimum 1 day per week on-site, with additional lab time as needed to support demos and customer replication work)
Travel: Approximately 25%
About the Role
We're partnering with a global leader in industrial networking, cybersecurity, and automation to fill a Senior Sales Engineer seat on their networking product team. The client delivers connectivity solutions that power industrial automation, transportation, energy, and manufacturing systems worldwide.
They're looking for a self-directed and technically deep Sales Engineer to support their industrial networking product line. This is a pre and post-sales technical support role centered on demoing, configuring, and customizing networking products for customers nationwide. You'll work out of the client's Brea lab to replicate customer environments, deliver in-person and remote demos, and partner with customers and channel partners to design and deploy real-world networking solutions.
Responsibilities
- Deliver pre and post-sales technical support for the industrial networking product line, supporting customers and channel partners nationwide
- Design, configure, and demo networking solutions in the Brea lab, both in-person and remotely for national customers
- Customize lab environments to replicate customer scenarios and validate proposed solutions before deployment
- Travel to customer sites for in-person demos, POCs, deployments, and critical escalations (approximately 25% travel)
- Partner with sales, product marketing, and channel teams to advance opportunities and support the buying process
- Provide root-cause analysis on complex networking issues using packet-level inspection (Wireshark), CLI diagnostics, and lab replication
- Manage support cases and pre-sales activity through Salesforce, keeping the queue clean and follow-ups on time
- Capture Voice of Customer feedback and provide input to Product Marketing and Business Units on product enhancements
- Produce customer-facing summaries, configuration guides, and internal knowledge articles
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Ethernet and IP-based networking products in a customer-facing or engineering capacity
- CCNP-level networking depth, with active certification strongly preferred (recently expired CCNP or equivalent hands-on depth will be considered for strong candidates)
- Expert-level Wireshark proficiency for packet analysis, root-cause identification, and performance troubleshooting
- Strong Layer 2 depth: VLANs and trunking, STP/RSTP/MSTP, LACP, QoS, LLDP, IGMP snooping, redundancy protocols
- Strong Layer 3 depth: inter-VLAN routing, static and dynamic routing (OSPF), VRRP or equivalent redundancy, ACLs, NAT
- VPN and security fundamentals: IPsec and SSL VPN, certificates and PKI, RADIUS, 802.1X
- Strong Linux command-line proficiency for diagnostics, network services integration, and edge device configuration
- Experience going on-site to customer locations to demo, configure, and troubleshoot networking equipment
- Ability to work self-directed, manage your own schedule, and independently determine when lab work is needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Industrial networking or OT experience, including industrial ethernet protocols (MRP, PRP, HSR, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP)
- Prior experience at a networking manufacturer in a Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Field Application Engineer capacity
- Experience with industrial automation, transportation, energy, or manufacturing customer environments
- Additional certifications such as CWNA, CISSP, or CCIE
- Advanced Linux depth, including scripting and network services deployment
- Experience customizing and configuring lab environments to replicate customer networks for demo and validation
