The primary responsibility of the LAN Administrator in HSPHD is to maintain daily operations of department LAN’s. The emphasis is to be placed on maintaining current technology in computer networking to provide innovation toward staff efficiencies and improved client service.
This position is classified as a Principal Information Technology Specialist in the Hennepin County job classification systems.
The Primary Duties Of This Position Position Include
- Coordinate department LAN utilization, configure and install LAN servers, and assist Division support ITS in installing LAN PC’s.
- Provide backup/restore for department data files.
- Providing LAN administration for Active Directory.
- Coordinate file sharing utilization.
- Document department LAN systems.
- Coordinate systems access and assure virus protection for all department computers.
- Troubleshoot and problem-solve connectivity issues.
- Responsible for overall administration, network system design, and support of the HSPHD systems; responsible for the day-to-day operation of the File and Print servers.
- Apply application releases, maintains applications security, maintains both internally developed and vendor supplied software executable(s).
- Organize, monitor and implement information system projects.
- One of the following:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, management information systems (MIS) or related field plus two years of professional information technology experience
- A two year degree or approved certification in an IT program plus four years of professional level IT experience
- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience to equal six years
- Ability to work with a wide range of computer hardware, software and peripherals.
- High level of knowledge of LAN principles and security.
- Ability to consult and communicate effectively with all staff and outside agencies, handle multiple simultaneous projects, and analyze and resolve problems.
- A minimum of 3-5 years experience in successfully implementing mission critical networks within established deliverable dates.
- Experience in LAN Management and LAN infrastructures including cabling and connectivity, RF technology and user accounts.
- Experience with daily administration and support tasks that include firewalls, RAS, VPN, ISDN, DSL, wireless, and Internet.
- Ability to technically support Windows Operating Systems to include 2000, XP, 2003 and Active Directory NTFS.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting hardware such as Cisco switches, Ethernet equipment and LAN servers is highly desired.
- Knowledge of SCCM/SMS, or other LAN management support tools.
