As the Fiber Splicing Technician, you will ultimately be responsible for splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic cable systems while supporting outside plant construction projects. You will perform fiber optic installation, testing, documentation, and maintenance activities to ensure reliable network performance. As the Fiber Splicing Technician, your customers are Congruex construction teams and telecommunications network partners, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through quality workmanship, safety compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities (Including, But Not Limited To)
- Perform fiber optic splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs for underground and aerial telecommunications networks.
- Prepare, install, organize, splice, and seal fiber optic cables, splice cases, enclosures, tie points, and jumper connections.
- Read and interpret blueprints, splice matrices, redline maps, and network documentation to complete fiber assignments accurately.
- Perform end-of-line testing, troubleshoot network performance issues, complete equipment audits, and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Pull, install, splice, activate, and rehabilitate fiber optic cable systems using manual, mechanical, or blowing methods.
- Support outside plant construction activities while maintaining quality standards and safe work practices.
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- Experience splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic cable systems.
- Experience working in outside plant telecommunications construction environments.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, splice matrices, maps, and utility drawings.
- Ability to distinguish fiber optic colors and perform accurate fiber splicing and testing.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced field environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with underground and aerial fiber optic construction.
- Experience interpreting splice matrices, redline maps, and telecommunications network documentation.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, twist, push, pull, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders and poles, work at heights, and perform work in confined spaces.
- Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to safely work around heavy equipment while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
