Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Fiber Optic Field Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot fiber-optic internet, voice, Wi-Fi, and related services in residential and commercial environments.
This is primarily an installation, service, and troubleshooting position-not a fiber-splicing-only role. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working directly with customers, installing equipment and cabling, diagnosing service issues, and completing fieldwork throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and activate fiber-optic internet, voice, managed Wi-Fi, and related services in homes and businesses.
- Install, test, terminate, and troubleshoot fiber-optic and Ethernet cabling.
- Configure and troubleshoot ONTs, routers, Wi-Fi equipment, streaming devices, and other customer-premises equipment.
- Diagnose fiber, network, wiring, equipment, and wireless performance issues.
- Perform occasional fiber splicing, testing, and repair work as needed.
- Explain services and equipment clearly to customers.
- Complete service documentation accurately and maintain organized work areas.
- Safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and other field equipment.
- Work independently while communicating effectively with dispatch, support teams, and other field personnel.
- Three or more years of relevant experience preferred.
- Previous experience in fiber-optic, cable, telecommunications, low-voltage, electrical, networking, or a related field-service role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Experience installing services or equipment in residential and commercial environments.
- Comfortable interacting directly with customers in a professional and respectful manner.
- Ability to perform physical fieldwork, including lifting equipment, climbing ladders, and working in basements, attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor environments.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Dependable attendance and strong communication skills.
- Fiber-splicing experience is a plus but is not the primary focus of this role.
- Candidates should be willing and able to perform customer installations, service calls, troubleshooting, cabling, equipment configuration, and other day-to-day field responsibilities.
- Competitive compensation based on experience.
- Full-time, year-round employment.
- Benefits package and paid time off.
- Training on modern fiber-optic and networking technologies.
- Diverse day-to-day responsibilities with opportunities to expand technical skills.
- Career growth opportunities as the organization continues to expand.
