About Us

Overjoy is building Sales AI for B2B commerce. Our mission is to enable 10x sales teams by bringing modern software and AI to a long-underserved industry: B2B sales for consumer brands.

Over 800 modern brands like Tipsy Elves, P.F. Candle Co., and David Protein use Overjoy to find new prospects, run outreach, manage accounts, and scale wholesale revenue — without the bloat of legacy platforms.

We're backed by Bessemer, OSV, Floodgate and founders of Thumbtack, Alloy, and Unsupervised — and 6 of our own customers invested after using the product.

The Role

We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to co-own our backend codebase and infrastructure foundations that power Overjoy at scale.

This is a high-leverage, foundational role focused on reliability, scalability, and data integrity. You’ll work closely with the founders and engineering team to design and operate data ingestion pipelines, background processing systems, and database infrastructure that everything else depends on.

We grew 5x in the past 12 months and are aiming to do it again in the next 12 months (currently at 1.7M ARR). As Overjoy scales usage across AI agents, campaigns, automations, CRM, and integrations, this role ensures the platform remains fast, correct, and operable under growing load and complexity.

What You'll Own
  • Co-own the backend codebase
  • Re-architect core ingestion pipelines (pub/sub, retries, ordering, replay)
  • Own critical backend areas end-to-end (e.g. data pipelines & ingestion, AI agent infra, automations, CRM backend features, and integrations)
  • Own database operations and performance (modeling, schema design, tuning, and keeping production healthy under load)
  • Build the observability, monitoring, and incident response that keep critical systems reliable
  • Improve devops and developer experience so the whole team ships faster and safer

You Might Be a Fit If You
  • Have maintained production backend codebase comparable to Overjoy’s current scale
  • Reason clearly about failure modes, retries, idempotency, and data correctness
  • Can ramp on an unfamiliar backend fast and become a credible reviewer quickly
  • Diagnose production data and infra issues with minimal context
  • Balance shipping speed with the right amount of durability
  • Want real ownership over systems and outcomes
  • Enjoy hard systems problems and fast-paced environment

Requirements
  • Built and owned data-ingestion or event-driven systems in production at scale
  • Strong foundations in systems engineering (async, queues, background jobs)
  • Owned reliability and observability for critical backend systems (logging, metrics, alerts, on-call)
  • Solid database operations and performance-tuning experience

Extra Points For
  • Experience with pub/sub and event-driven architectures, and the guarantees they require (ordering, idempotency, replay)
  • Track record of stabilizing database foundations (connection pooling, exhaustion prevention, branching for parallel dev)
  • You've owned a system from "scaling risk" all the way to reliable, observable, and easy to debug

Why Overjoy?

Build for a real problem in a wildly underserved market. Brand founders with multiple exits tell us, "I wish I had Overjoy when I launched my first brand." We're bringing modern software to a part of commerce that's been overlooked for too long.

AI that actually gets used daily. This isn't hype. Our customers use AI daily — to find leads, write emails, qualify prospects, and drive sales — often without even realizing it's AI.

You're joining the ground floor. You'll shape how we do backend architecture, code review, and reliability from day one — and define what those standards look like for years to come.

Our customers love us. More than 5 of our customers have started agencies as a side business helping others use Overjoy. One joined our team full-time!

We're growing fast. Our revenue 5x’ed in the past 12 months and we’re trying to do it again in the next 12 months.

Why You Shouldn't Join

This isn't a 9-to-5 job. We're doing hard things with a small team, and it's intense. We won't sugarcoat that.

You'll take full ownership and responsibility. You won't just execute tickets. You'll identify architectural risks, make the calls, and be accountable for the reliability and scalability of what we ship. That level of autonomy can be exciting, but also stressful — and it's not for everyone.

You'll wear a lot of hats. One day you're reviewing a teammate's PR and re-architecting an ingestion pipeline. The next you're debugging a production incident, tuning a database, and improving CI. If you prefer a narrow, clearly-bounded role, this might not be the right environment.

Perks & Benefits
  • Competitive salary + meaningful equity
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance (U.S.)
  • Free lunch & dinner around the office
  • Generous budget for laptops, monitors, and other equipment
