Senior Software Engineer — New York, NY

About the Company

Our client is a technology-driven quantitative investment firm that applies engineering, data science, AI/ML, and quantitative research to solve some of the world's most complex financial problems. Founded in 2001 and headquartered in New York, they are more technology company than hedge fund — engineering makes up a large portion of the organization, leadership stays hands-on as individual contributors, and the culture is built around technical depth, intellectual curiosity, and measurable impact.

This is not a trading floor. The problems here are distributed systems, massive-scale data infrastructure, ML platforms, and low-latency trading technology — and the people solving them are some of the best engineers in the industry.

The Role

We are partnering exclusively with our client on a significant expansion of their Software Engineering organization. Engineers join one of several verticals based on their background and interests, including:

  • ML Infrastructure & Modeling — building the infrastructure and tooling that supports quantitative research teams
  • Platform Engineering — internal platforms and tools used across the organization
  • Data Infrastructure — complex, scalable distributed data systems processing massive datasets
  • Trading Systems — systems powering live trading; C++ and low-latency focused
  • AI & Research Engineering — AI and research-oriented product and services engineering

Team allocation happens after the interview process. You'll be matched based on your background, interests, and where you'd have the most impact.

What You'll Do

Depending on the team, responsibilities include building and owning large-scale distributed infrastructure, designing and scaling data pipelines, developing ML infrastructure that powers quantitative research, building reliability and observability systems for mission-critical platforms, and working closely with quantitative researchers and data scientists to turn ideas into production systems.

What They're Looking For

  • 5–12 years of software engineering experience; sweet spot is 7–10 years
  • Strong backend and infrastructure engineering fundamentals — distributed systems, large-scale data, reliability, or platform engineering
  • Proficiency in one or more of: C++, Java, Python (Go and Rust a plus)
  • Background from top-tier technology companies or quantitative/trading firms preferred
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field from a strong program
  • Clear career progression, strong tenure, and hands-on individual contributor mindset
  • NYC-based or willing to relocate; tri-state area strongly preferred
