Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

About The Role
ACPWB's Data Infrastructure team is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer who takes genuine ownership of the employee data warehouse. This is not a break-fix role or a ticket queue. You will work in Terraform and AWS, contribute to the business intelligence and self-service reporting agenda, and collaborate closely with analysts and advisors who need technology that simply works. We have a small, excellent team. We are looking for someone who fits.
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will join ACPWB's Data Infrastructure team to drive business intelligence and self-service reporting improvements to the employee data warehouse. Working in Terraform and AWS, you will partner with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to build solutions that have measurable impact on firm performance. We deploy frequently, review code carefully, and invest in the quality of our technical foundation.
Key Responsibilities
- ◆ Evaluate and recommend tools, platforms, and architectural approaches for business intelligence and self-service reporting initiatives
- ◆ Manage vendor relationships for technical services and software subscriptions relevant to business intelligence and self-service reporting
- ◆ Conduct performance analysis and capacity planning for the employee data warehouse to support firm growth
- ◆ Participate in sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives as part of the Data Infrastructure engineering cadence
- ◆ Ensure reliability, performance, and security of business intelligence and self-service reporting infrastructure on on-premise infrastructure and hybrid cloud
- ◆ Ability to prioritize technical work based on business impact and operational risk
- ◆ Experience with version control (Git), code review practices, and CI/CD pipelines
- ◆ Understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, and VPN
- ◆ Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- ◆ Demonstrated ability to write clean, tested, maintainable code with attention to documentation
- ◆ Background in application security including OWASP principles and secure development practices
- ◆ Demonstrated interest in data quality, data contracts, or observability as engineering practices
- ◆ Experience with PostgreSQL, Snowflake, or other enterprise relational or analytical databases
- ◆ Prior involvement in technology selection or architectural decision-making in a professional context
If you have spent your career doing important work at organizations that did not fully recognize its importance, ACPWB is a corrective experience. We notice contribution. We reward it. We publish research arguing that everyone else should do the same, and we practice what we preach, which is not as common as it should be.
ACPWB was founded in Milwaukee in 2006 with a simple mandate: help working Americans understand and advocate for the compensation they deserve. Eighteen years later, that mandate has grown into a full-service research and advisory practice serving clients from early-stage employers to Fortune 50 enterprises — and we are still based in Milwaukee, because Milwaukee is genuinely underrated.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
For senior roles, the process typically includes a portfolio or work-sample discussion. We ask candidates to walk us through a piece of work they are proud of and explain the decisions behind it. Anonymize client details as appropriate. We are interested in the thinking, not the client names.
What Success Looks Like In Year One
- ◆ Identify and resolve at least one performance, security, or reliability gap in the existing infrastructure
- ◆ Complete a successful deployment to production with no unplanned rollbacks or escalations
- ◆ Complete any required compliance training modules and system access certifications
- ◆ Document the components of the employee data warehouse you own at a level sufficient for another engineer to maintain them
