About The Role
As a Senior Database Engineer, you will own the database platform from architecture through operations, enabling product teams to build reliable, data-intensive applications and AI-powered capabilities. This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about cloud-native infrastructure, database performance, automation, and modern data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Katalon's database platform with a focus on scalability, availability, security, and performance.
- Architect, provision, and manage PostgreSQL databases on AWS Aurora for mission-critical production systems.
- Build and maintain reusable database platform capabilities, including provisioning, backup & recovery, monitoring, observability, disaster recovery, and self-service tooling.
- Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC) adoption to automate database provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
- Optimize database performance through schema design, indexing strategies, query optimization, partitioning, replication, and capacity planning.
- Implement and maintain PostgreSQL Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), managing roles, grants, schema privileges, and least-privilege access across production and multi-tenant environments.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers and Platform teams to design scalable and reliable data architectures for SaaS products.
- Establish database standards, governance, security policies, backup strategies, and operational best practices across engineering teams.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term improvements to platform reliability.
- Lead database upgrades, migrations, and platform modernization initiatives with minimal service disruption.
- 5+ years of experience in Database Engineering, Database Administration, Platform Engineering, or Backend Engineering with strong database expertise.
- Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including replication, performance tuning, indexing, backup & recovery, partitioning, and high availability.
- Experience managing cloud-native database services, preferably AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS.
- Strong SQL skills with the ability to optimize complex, high-volume production workloads.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation to provision and manage database infrastructure.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), including managing roles, grants, schema privileges, and applying least-privilege principles across production and multi-tenant environments.
- Solid understanding of Linux/Unix systems and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience working in modern CI/CD, DevOps, and Platform Engineering environments.
- Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and system design skills.
- Good English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience building automation tools and operational scripts using Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
- Experience with PostgreSQL extensions such as pgvector, PostGIS, or TimescaleDB.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized environments.
- Experience with data warehousing technologies such as Amazon Redshift.
- AWS, PostgreSQL, Terraform, or Kubernetes certifications.
