Senior Data Engineer

Build, scale, and operate the data platforms that power our analytics and products.

The Team

You will join a small, pragmatic team (two other engineers and a Tech Lead) building and operating the data platform that powers analytics, reporting, and data products across Enity. We work in an agile way, with short feedback loops, shared ownership, and close collaboration with our Analytics and Product teams.

There is plenty of legacy to untangle and complex problems to solve, and we are on an exciting transformation journey to become AI-native. Because the team is small, you will have real influence over architecture and tooling, help set technical direction, and see the impact of your work quickly.

Your Role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and operating robust, scalable, and secure data platforms in AWS cloud environments. Working closely with our Analytics and Product teams, you will ensure high-quality data is readily available for reporting, experimentation, and advanced analytics.

You will take ownership of the end-to-end data lifecycle, from ingestion and transformation to delivery and optimization, applying engineering best practices to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python, Scala, and SQL on Spark and Flink.
  • Build and maintain cloud-native data solutions leveraging AWS services such as Glue, Redshift, Athena, EMR, S3, Kinesis, Lambda, and Managed Service for Apache Flink.
  • Orchestrate and monitor data workflows using AWS Step Functions, CloudWatch, and Datadog.
  • Deliver well-defined data products with clear ownership, automated quality checks, and documentation for known consumers.
  • Ensure data platforms meet high standards of reliability, performance, scalability, and observability.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Apply and enforce data security best practices, including IAM policies, access control, and encryption.
  • Continuously improve data architecture, tooling, and processes in line with industry best practices.

Your Profile

You are a hands-on, technically strong Data Engineer with proven experience building AWS cloud-based data platforms. You are comfortable operating at scale, enjoy solving complex data problems, and take ownership of the systems you build. Proactive and detail-oriented, you are motivated to deliver high-quality data solutions that create real business impact. You can instinctively spot incoherent requirements or poor architectural choices, act on them, and pivot to better alternatives.

Ideal qualifications (a subset is fine if you are willing to learn):

  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative field (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Statistics). A master's in one of these fields is a plus, though equivalent professional experience can count in place of a master's.
  • Solid experience as a Data Engineer working in AWS environments.
  • Proficiency in languages and frameworks such as Scala, Python, SQL, and Spark for data processing and transformation.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Glue, Athena, S3 (Tables), and Lambda.
  • Experience with data orchestration tools such as Step Functions, SageMaker, or Glue Workflows.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
  • Good understanding of data security, IAM, and encryption best practices.

Nice to have:

  • GenAI expertise.
  • AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Data Engineer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
  • Experience with Machine Learning and AI/ML data pipelines in AWS (SageMaker).
  • Knowledge of serverless data engineering with Lambda and API Gateway.
  • Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, OpenSearch).
  • Familiarity with IoT data and device protocols such as MQTT, LoRaWAN, or NB-IoT.
  • Experience with lakehouse table formats (e.g. Apache Iceberg) and event-driven or event-sourced architectures.
  • Experience with Rust, Go, or similar.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary that reflects your experience and impact.
  • Competitive pension package, with independent advice from our broker (Willis Towers Watson).
  • Health and dental insurance for your peace of mind.
  • 25 days of paid holiday plus 5 additional days off (a full sixth holiday week, known in Denmark as feriefridage).
  • Flexible working — up to 2 days from home per week, with 3 days together in the office.
  • A small, dedicated team and an informal, social culture in a growing, world-class company.
  • Full-time, permanent
  • Working language: English
