About Traumasoft

Traumasoft is a leading provider of integrated software solutions for the emergency medical services (EMS) industry. We are dedicated to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of EMS operations through innovative technology and comprehensive solutions. Our collaborative and growth-oriented work environment fosters creativity and technical excellence, ensuring our team is always at the forefront of industry advancements.

The Role

Traumasoft is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build our data platform. The platform is new and the warehouse technology has not been selected, so you will have real influence over both what we build and what we build it on. You will design the warehouse, build the pipelines that feed it, operate it in production, and remain its technical owner as it grows. This role reports to the VP of Engineering.

Traumasoft runs a single-tenant architecture, so each customer operates on an isolated deployment with its own database. Consolidating that into one analytical platform, accurately and at scale, is the foundation for internal analytics, customer-facing reporting, and AI-driven product features. Our data is protected health information under HIPAA, so privacy and auditability are part of the design rather than an afterthought.

Our source systems are mature. Getting years of production data across those deployments consistent enough to consolidate is a real part of this job, and some of that work reaches back into the application itself.

What You Will Do

  • Design analytical models across dispatch, patient care records, billing and payments, scheduling, and payroll that answer questions across the customer base correctly and hold up as source systems change.
  • Build ingestion that stays current without full reloads and recovers cleanly from partial failures.
  • Reconcile customer-specific reference data, such as call types and level of service, to a shared standard so cross-customer analysis is accurate.
  • Design for PHI from the start: de-identification, access control, retention, and auditability, built to SOC 2 controls.
  • Build the serving layer and interfaces that put warehouse data in front of internal analytics, in-product customer reporting, and AI features.
  • Set the data standards other engineers build to, and review their work against them.
  • Work with application engineers to understand and improve how source data is produced.

What We Are Looking For

  • 7 or more years in software or data engineering, including 4 or more years of hands-on data engineering or warehousing in a design and build capacity.
  • Experience owning a data platform in production over time, rather than handing it off at delivery.
  • Advanced SQL, including performance tuning on tables with hundreds of millions of rows.
  • Strong analytical data modeling, including dimensional modeling.
  • Production ELT or ETL pipeline experience, including incremental loads and recovery from failure.
  • Hands-on experience with a cloud warehouse or lakehouse platform such as Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Databricks, or a purpose-built PostgreSQL warehouse.
  • Strong Python, or an equivalent language, for pipeline code and tooling.
  • Relational database depth: schema design, indexing, and migration safety. Our operational databases are MySQL.
  • Comfort tracing data through unfamiliar application code. Our application is PHP; prior PHP experience is not required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare or other regulated-domain data experience: HIPAA, HL7 or FHIR, claims and revenue cycle data, or work under SOC 2 or HITRUST.
  • Streaming or change-data-capture tooling.
  • Business intelligence and semantic layer experience.
  • Preparing data for AI and large language model workloads.
  • Establishing a data platform or data function from the ground up.

Working Here

We are a distributed team spanning US time zones along with the UK, Latin America, and India, so clear written communication matters. AI-assisted development is part of how we work, and our engineers use Claude Code and similar tooling. You will work directly with product, finance, and customer operations, and occasionally with customers.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience and skills
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement savings plan
  • Generous paid time off and holidays
  • Remote-first work with flexible hours

Traumasoft is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
