Job Title
Senior Database Administrator (Oracle & Azure Databases)
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in Oracle databases and working knowledge of Microsoft Azure database platforms. The role is responsible for the design, administration, optimization, security, and high availability of enterprise database environments supporting mission‑critical applications. The Senior DBA will collaborate with infrastructure, application, cloud, and security teams to ensure database reliability, performance, and compliance across on‑premises and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Operations
- Design, install, configure, and administer Oracle databases (Oracle 12c/19c or later) in production, non‑production, DR, and high‑availability environments.
- Manage routine DBA activities including database provisioning, user/security management, patching, upgrades, backups, restores, and performance tuning.
- Monitor database health, capacity, and performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues to meet SLA and uptime requirements.
- Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies (RMAN, Data Guard, replication).
Cloud & Azure Database Management
- Support and administer Azure database services such as Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure VM‑based databases.
- Assist in database migrations from on‑premises Oracle or SQL platforms to Azure‑hosted solutions.
- Work with cloud architects to design secure, scalable, and cost‑optimized database solutions in Azure.
- Integrate databases with Azure services for monitoring, security, and automation.
Performance, Security & Compliance
- Perform advanced database performance tuning, query optimization, and index design.
- Implement and enforce database security best practices, including access control, encryption, auditing, and vulnerability remediation.
- Support regulatory, audit, and compliance requirements through proper documentation, logging, and governance controls.
High Availability, DR & Support
- Design and maintain high‑availability and disaster recovery architectures for mission‑critical systems.
- Participate in on‑call support, incident response, root‑cause analysis, and post‑incident reporting.
- Support application go‑lives, production cutovers, and post‑deployment stabilization.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure engineers, cloud teams, and vendors to support end‑to‑end project delivery.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical oversight to junior DBAs or support teams.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
- Good Senior years of experience as a Database Administrator in enterprise environments.
- Strong hands‑on expertise in Oracle Database administration (12c/19c or later).
- Experience with Oracle RMAN, Data Guard, ASM, and performance diagnostics.
- Working knowledge of Azure database platforms (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, Azure VMs).
- Experience with database migrations, upgrades, and platform modernization initiatives.
- Proficiency with scripting and automation (Shell, PowerShell, or similar).
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in ITIL‑based operational environments and project‑driven engagements.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have
- Experience with hybrid cloud environments (on‑premises + Azure).
- Exposure to Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure‑as‑code practices.
- Oracle, Microsoft Azure, or cloud architecture certifications.
- Experience supporting regulated or high‑availability environments (utilities, finance, healthcare).
