PostgreSQL Database Administrator & Engineer

We're looking for an experienced Database Engineer and Python Backend Consultant to join our client's technical team and contribute to the development and maintenance of mission-critical data platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, optimizing and managing robust PostgreSQL environments while supporting the development of modern backend applications and automation processes.

Working in a complex, high-availability environment, you will collaborate with development teams and technical stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable and high-performing database solutions. You will play a key role in database architecture, backend integration and the continuous improvement of development and deployment practices.

Responsibilities

• Manage, maintain and optimize PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Design database structures and implement backup, recovery, monitoring and performance-tuning strategies.
• Develop and maintain Python backend applications and REST APIs integrated with PostgreSQL databases.
• Design and implement tailor-made database solutions to support development projects, preferably within microservices architectures.
• Set up, maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to automate development and deployment processes.
• Support the implementation and configuration of additional database technologies when required.
• Contribute to monitoring and logging activities, including the use of the Elastic Stack.
• Produce clear and structured technical documentation covering analyses, database designs, configurations and architectural decisions.

Profile

The ideal candidate combines deep database expertise with strong backend development skills and a passion for automation and system reliability.

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in database administration, with extensive hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL.
• Proven experience managing PostgreSQL environments, including backup and recovery procedures, performance optimization and monitoring.
• Strong experience in Python backend development, including the design and implementation of REST APIs.
• Experience integrating backend services with PostgreSQL databases.
• Solid knowledge of CI/CD practices and GitLab pipeline management.
• Experience with Linux server administration.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and collaborative development environments.
• Knowledge of the Elastic Stack for monitoring and logging is considered a strong asset.
• Experience with technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Ansible and NoSQL databases is an advantage.
• Experience with microservices architectures is highly appreciated.
