Cloud & Data Engineer
Location: Ghent, Belgium (on-site)
Team: R&D l Reports to: CTO
At XEOS, you'll own the cloud and data backbone of a medical imaging platform that helps surgeons make better decisions. You'll turn the clinical imaging and quality-control data from our AURA scanners into insights for surgeons, quality teams, and the business.
If you're a Cloud & Data engineer with strong Linux roots who enjoys taking responsibility and wants to build technology that truly matters, we'd love to meet you.
💙 OUR MISSION - Connect the power of molecular imaging to the point of surgery
At XEOS, we are transforming surgical oncology through innovative intraoperative imaging solutions. Founded in Belgium in 2019, we developed the world’s first specimen PET-CT scanner, the AURA 10 PET-CT, empowering surgeons to make more informed decisions during surgery, ultimately improving patient outcomes. Today, our AURA 10 is already used in leading hospitals, and we're now entering an exciting new phase of growth with the development of our next-generation platform. We're a medtech company driven by Transparency, Dedication, Agility and Excellence. Values that shape our dynamic and collaborative culture. We believe great people thrive when they're given trust, responsibility, and the freedom to build. It's an opportunity to strengthen our hardware capabilities and help shape the future of XEOS.

🎯 YOUR MISSION - What you’ll achieve
You'll become the go-to colleague for cloud and data engineering at XEOS. You'll own and evolve the AWS platform that processes the clinical imaging and quality-control data from our AURA scanners, design the data pipelines that turn that data into usable insight, and bring your Linux, cloud and data expertise into the R&D software team as a shared technical resource. You'll also help keep our core infrastructure (VPN, on-prem servers) stable and secure. By joining our team, you help XEOS bring peace of mind to patients by pushing the limits of imaging precisely where it matters.

📝 YOUR Responsibilities - What you’ll do
- Own our AWS infrastructure (EC2, S3, IAM, Lambda, DynamoDB, VPC, billing) for the platform handling of clinical imaging and quality-control data
- Design and maintain the data pipelines and architecture behind our imaging, quality-control and dashboard data
- Contribute to Python and backend development of the platform, together with the R&D software team
- Support Docker container and CI/CD pipeline maintenance
- Keep core infrastructure (VPN, on-prem servers) stable and secure, documenting as you go to ensure long-term maintainability
- Document architecture, decisions and processes—knowledge sharing is part of the engineering work, not an afterthought
- Handle healthcare-grade data with care, respecting GDPR and HIPAA requirements
👀 In reality – What your week could look like
On Monday, you start with a quick check of AWS billing, alerts, and infrastructure health before diving into a new data pipeline feature. On Tuesday, you're pairing with our software engineers on a backend feature and aligning with the CTO on how the platform architecture should evolve. Later, on Wednesday, you're improving a quality-control dashboard data flow, updating your architecture documentation, or fixing the occasional VPN certificate or server disk space issue before moving on to the next cloud or data engineering challenge. On Thursday, you have an interesting training planned, and on Friday, we wrap up the week together during our Weekly Dose, where we celebrate wins, share company updates, and end the week as one team.
🌟 YOUR Personality & mindset – Who you are
You're a cloud & data engineer at heart, with strong Linux fundamentals comfortable at the shell and OS level, not just behind managed-service abstractions. You naturally ask “How can we build this better?” and enjoy taking initiative while staying pragmatic when things are ambiguous. You're technically confident but intellectually humble and happy to learn on the job.
You also bring:
- An ownership mindset - you're comfortable taking responsibility for systems end-to-end, in a small team where you often operate independently
- Strong communication and documentation habits - you share what you know, so the whole team gets stronger
- Curiosity - you don't mind occasionally dipping into infrastructure or security work, without needing it to define your role forever
- A collaborative attitude - you enjoy building together and flag issues early
- Care and precision when working with sensitive healthcare data
🧠 YOUR QUALIFICATIONS & Experience – What we're looking for
Must-have
- Master's degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent through experience
- 5+ years of experience, preferably in high-reliability or high-precision environments
- Hands-on AWS experience (EC2, S3, IAM, Lambda, DynamoDB, VPC, billing)
- Strong Linux skills: command line, system administration, networking and troubleshooting
- Data engineering experience: databases, pipelines, ETL
- Python experience
- A solid grasp of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, load balancing)
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English (written and spoken)
- High willingness to adopt AI-powered tools and optimizations in daily engineering work. We are an AI-forward organization and we'll help you get up to speed to leverage AI to work smarter
- Based in Belgium and willing to work on-site in Ghent
Nice to have
- Docker/containers and CI/CD pipeline experience—a growth area we'll support, not a gate
- Cybersecurity or patch-management experience
- Terraform, Ansible or WireGuard (VPN) experience
- Full-stack web development experience
- Exposure to healthcare or imaging data (e.g. DICOM), or another regulated environment
- AWS certification
- Previous experience in a scale-up or startup environment
Don't tick every box? If this role excites you but your experience doesn't match perfectly, please apply anyway. We'd rather meet you and find out together.
🤝 OUR commitment TO YOU – What we offer
- Real impact: you are the cloud & data domain at XEOS, with a direct line to the CTO. Your architecture decisions shape a platform that powers cancer-surgery imaging used in hospitals every day.
- Engineering challenges: cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, backend development and healthcare-grade data—all in one role.
- Great People: you'll work in a multidisciplinary team who genuinely enjoy solving difficult problems together. A transparent, hands-on company culture with short communication lines and the freedom to make decisions and take initiative.
- Competitive package: competitive salary with attractive benefits, including meal vouchers, eco vouchers, hospitalization and group insurance, bike leasing option, training budget, work from home days …
