Your Role

As The Production Support Developer Specialist, You Will Help Achieve The Agency Goal Of Enabling DOR To Operate Efficiently And Effectively. Your Developer Tasks May Include:

• Perform advanced level programming tasks needed to develop, enhance, maintain and support complex IT applications consisting of commercial off-the-shelf packaged applications (COTS), in-house custom developed applications on LAN and web-based platforms according to DOR standards.
• Develop solutions that meet user needs and specifications using approved DOR development toolkits and programming languages (like Microsoft .NET – C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, Java, PL/SQL, SQL, etc.) in an integrated development environment.
• Propose design and system alternatives in response to customer requests and system issues.
• Develop specifications according to DOR systems development, project management and configuration management methodologies.
• Triage production issues, identify impacted processes, and resolve errors.
• Design, develop, and implement solutions that address existing issues and prevent future errors.
• Lead and direct other application development professionals assigned as members of small work teams.

Salary Information

The starting pay rate for this position is between $45.90 - $48.89 per hour ($95,472 - $101,691 annually), depending on experience and qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Use this Total Rewards Calculator to see an estimate of the total value of our competitive benefits package!

The classification of this position is an IS Systems Development Services Specialist, which is in Pay Schedule 07, Pay Range 33. Pay will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in effect at the time of hire. Starting pay for current state employees may vary based on applicable provisions in the Compensation Plan.

Job Details

Background Checks: Due to the nature of this position, final candidates will be subject to criminal background, fingerprint, and tax compliance checks.

I-9 Requirements: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of appointment. The Department of Revenue does not sponsor work or student visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. DOR participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information for all new employees to confirm authorization to work in the U.S.

Probationary Period: A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Remote/Telework up to 60%. Note: During probation you will have the opportunity to gradually increase to 60% (i.e., working remotely three (3) days per week, and will report to the 2135 Rimrock Road; Madison WI building, two (2) days per week) within 9 months (of your 12 month probation) based on performance and workload needs. Remote work is intended to be performed primarily in the State of Wisconsin and is subject to change based on business needs.

Qualifications

Minimum qualified candidates will have experience in each of the following:

• Experience developing code using a minimum of two (2) of the following: C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, PL/SQL, or SQL.
• Experience as a developer on an IT project (e.g., creating task lists, estimating development effort, tracking progress, resolving issues/defects, communicating status, etc.).
• Experience in designing, enhancing or maintaining complex information technology (IT) applications (e.g., highly integrated or interdependent user functionality, tight component dependencies, large or multiple databases, etc.).
• Experience triaging and/or troubleshooting production job failures or user-reported incidents.
• Experience mentoring or coaching less experienced software developers.

Well Qualified Candidates Will Have Experience In a Minimum Of Two (2) Of The Following (in Addition To The Minimum Qualifications):

• Experience designing, developing, testing, and/or maintaining .NET based software applications.
• Experience serving as a lead for an IT project, or assisting others with IT project tasks (e.g., creating task lists, estimating development effort, tracking progress, leading meetings, resolving issues/defects, communicating status, etc.).
• Experience enhancing or maintaining complex, highly regulated/multifaceted IT systems that are governed and/or influenced by federal and state laws, policies, and/or guidelines.
• Experience as a team lead or lead developer on a development team.
