Software Engineer
Indexed description
You'll join our Software Development group, made up of teams focused on areas such as Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics and Vehicle Performance. We use the right tools for the job, from C# and C++ desktop applications, to React web apps, Python analysis tools and modern backend services. We're also on a journey to adopt more cloud native technologies and modern data platforms.
What You'll Be Doing
- Getting to know the needs of a wide range of users across the team
- Working with users and colleagues to research, build and roll out new software solutions
- Improving the reliability, performance and scale of existing systems
- Collaborating with other technology groups to build out our shared data platform and services
- Helping to streamline our development process so we can deliver more for our users
- Supporting applications during race weekends where needed
- Helping to improve software processes across Engineering and Operations
Since its foundation in 1977 by the eminent, late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships, in association with Cosworth, Honda and Renault. Its roll call of drivers is legendary, with its seven Drivers’ Championship trophies being lifted by true icons of the sport: Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. The team has made history before and is out to make it again with a long-term mission to evolve and return to the front of the grid.
Qualifications
What we're looking for
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Experience with software development, testing and CI in languages such as C#, Go, Java, C++, Python or TypeScript
- Familiarity with source control and process management tools such as Git and Azure DevOps
- A collaborative and curious approach to solving technical problems
- The ability to work across different teams and disciplines
- Comfort with changing priorities and a willingness to learn new technologies quickly
- Experience with containerisation, DevOps or cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
- Experience with logging, monitoring or observability
- Experience with non-relational datastores (document, object or timeseries)
- Background in aerodynamics, data science, vehicle dynamics or simulations
In your first year, you'll help build out features for Phobos, including streamlines, iso surfaces, centralised colour scales and bounded flow metrics. There's plenty of scope to grow into related work too, such as improving traceability in our CFD submission process and building out visualisation tools for other use cases.
This role will make good use of AI and agentic development tools, particularly for building specialist visualisation components.
