For our client, a global leader in the healthcare and diagnostics industry, we are looking for a
Software Engineer (80–100%).
Our client develops innovative diagnostic solutions and digital healthcare technologies that support laboratories, healthcare professionals, and patients worldwide. As part of an international software engineering team, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of a Linux-based software platform for next-generation medical devices, helping to deliver reliable and impactful healthcare solutions.
This is a 12-month contract position with the possibility of extension. The role is hybrid, requiring 50% onsite presence in Rotkreuz, Switzerland, with flexible working hours and remote work for the remaining time. The preferred start date is ASAP, with the latest possible start date being 1 October 2026.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the custom OS abstraction layer with a strong focus on modern C++ backend development.
- Implement and maintain the next-generation system daemon and a family of plugins exposing operating system capabilities through an RPC API.
- Contribute to the continuous development and maintenance of an in-house Linux distribution for medical devices.
- Support software development for innovative medical instruments and digital healthcare solutions.
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure software quality and reliability.
- Refactor and optimize existing code to improve maintainability and performance.
- Manage Debian packaging, system configurations, and deployment processes.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams while taking ownership of technical challenges.
Your Profile
- Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience with modern C++ development.
- Extensive experience using Linux as a development environment.
- Strong understanding of software architecture and backend development.
- Team player with a proactive, "can-do" attitude and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and quickly adapt to new technologies.
- Advanced English skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience with virtualization and container technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Experience with embedded software development, hardware drivers, ARM platforms, and hardware/software integration.
- German language skills are considered an advantage.
