Job Title: Machine Vision Researcher

Location: Weilheim, Germany (On-Site)

Type: Permanent

Our client are an international semiconductor company

The Role

Actively scout, evaluate, and prototype emerging 2D/3D machine vision technologies, including new hardware setups, advanced optics, and novel data modalities

Design and mathematically validate next-generation, deterministic algorithms for 2D/3D ultra-high-precision metrology, appearance defect detection, and quality inspection

Translate your researched concepts into highly performant, production-ready logic within our proprietary, low-latency C++ core vision library

Design and build advanced optical lab setups to test complex customer use cases and prove the viability of new inspection methodologies

Identify, draft and evaluate customer specific use cases and be an active agent in the integration of different teams and stakeholder

Act as the bridge between cutting-edge research and practical application, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and external research partners

Must-Haves

Master’s or PhD degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent with a strong focus on computational imaging or advanced optical sensing

Over 8 years in an R&D environment (industrial lab or applied research institute) with proven track record in development of advanced machine vision solutions

Deep expertise in the mathematical foundations of computer vision, including linear algebra, numerical optimization, 3D co-ordinate transformations and advanced camera/sensor calibration

Solid understanding of modern, high-performance C++ (C++17 and beyond) to ensure that novel algorithms can be efficiently integrated into our real-time core library

Strong familiarity with HALCON or similar frameworks for image processing

Knowledge of international standards for optical metrology would be a plus (e.g. ISO standards for surface texture, dimensional measurement accuracy, and calibration traceability)

Experience with AI-based/Deep Learning inspection techniques is a welcome addition to your classic, deterministic vision toolkit

Experience with hardware-accelerated computing and deployment on GPU, FPGA, ARM, or Embedded Systems would be beneficial
