Embedded Systems Engineer

Why Join Us Now
Terasi is at an inflection point — we have real defence, telecom, and industrial customers waiting on systems we're actively building out, and the embedded software layer is being built from the ground up, right now. This isn't a role where you inherit a mature codebase and patch around the edges — you'll be the one defining the architecture, the conventions, and the team itself, from day one. High stakes, fast pace, and a small team means your work will directly shape nearly everything that ships. If you want outsized influence over how a defence-tech hardware company's software gets built — and the chance to grow into leading that function as we scale — this is about as good a moment as it gets.
The Role
Own embedded software development for the product range. Immediate work: firmware development within the RU1's FreeRTOS architecture, contributing to architecture decisions as the system evolves, and developing the higher level gimbal control software — pulling data from the drone flight controller and gimbal IMU, processing it, and commanding off-the-shelf gimbal motor controllers. The person develops, tests, and iterates this software hands-on in the lab, working closely with the hardware engineers, and is expected to take ownership and drive work forward independently.
Must-haves
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years working at the intersection of embedded software and hardware, with the ability to independently debug and validate hardware in a lab environment — comfortable bringing up boards, working through hardware-software integration issues, and troubleshooting at the bench
- Expert embedded C/C++
- RTOS-based firmware development, ideally FreeRTOS: task design, timing, interrupt handling
- Microcontroller programming on modern platforms (RP2350, ESP32 or similar)
- Serial protocols in practice: UART, I2C, SPI, debugging on real hardware
- Motor control or motion systems experience: closed-loop control, IMU data processing, commanding motor controllers
- Solid working proficiency in Python — comfortable writing scripts and tools for test automation, data processing, and lab debugging
- Practical, hands-on experience with Linux
- Self-directed: identifies what needs doing and takes action
- Experience with networking protocols and stacks on embedded systems (e.g., TCP/IP, Ethernet drivers), including bring-up and debugging of network connectivity on custom hardware
- Drone or flight controller ecosystem experience (e.g. MAVLink)
- Interest in growing into a technical lead role as the team expands
Practicalities
Role is on site at the lab.
TERASi is a deeptech startup based in Stockholm, Sweden which offers unique components and packaging for high-frequency wireless applications.
TERASi’s technology builds upon academic research at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and years of internal R&D. The company designs and manufactures all components from its Stockholm headquarters and now embarks upon a mission to scale their technology and bring it to mass markets.
