Freelance Embedded Application Engineer

Location: Wuppertal, Germany (Hybrid)

Contract Length: Initial 12 Months

Rate: €75-95/hour (DOE)

A leading manufacturer of innovative home appliance products is seeking an experienced Embedded Application Engineer to support the development of next-generation connected consumer devices.

You will join a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for delivering embedded software features for smart appliance platforms, working closely with hardware, systems, test and connectivity teams throughout the full product lifecycle.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with experience developing embedded applications for consumer products, IoT devices, household appliances, or connected electronics.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded application software in C/C++
• Implement new product features and functionality
• Design software modules, state machines and control logic
• Integrate communication interfaces including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
• Collaborate with hardware, systems and verification teams
• Debug software and perform root-cause analysis
• Support software integration, testing and validation activities
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
• Contribute to product releases and software documentation

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years' experience in Embedded Software Development
• Strong programming skills in Embedded C/C++
• Experience with ARM-based microcontrollers (STM32, NXP, Infineon or similar)
• RTOS experience (FreeRTOS, Zephyr or equivalent)
• Knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C and CAN protocols
• Experience debugging embedded systems
• Familiarity with Git-based development environments
• Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles

• Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
• Wi-Fi connectivity
• MQTT or IoT communication protocols
• Consumer electronics or home appliance experience
• Embedded Linux exposure
• Secure firmware update mechanisms (OTA)
• Agile development methodologies
