Embedded Systems Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire

Location: American Fork, UT (Onsite)


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Systems Manager to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for developing next-generation energy storage and portable power solutions. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and strategic execution across embedded software, controls engineering, and embedded hardware development.

The ideal candidate will have a strong hands-on engineering background, proven leadership experience, and a passion for building high-performing teams that deliver reliable, scalable, and innovative products.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a cross-functional team of Embedded Software, Controls, and Hardware Engineers.
  • Establish technical direction, architecture standards, and engineering best practices across embedded systems initiatives.
  • Drive project planning, prioritization, resource allocation, and execution across multiple concurrent programs.
  • Partner with product management, project management, and executive leadership to align engineering deliverables with business objectives.
  • Guide firmware architecture, control algorithm development, hardware integration, and technical design reviews.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to support PCB fabrication, manufacturing readiness, and product quality initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with external engineering partners, contractors, and OEM resources.
  • Identify technical risks, remove project blockers, and drive resolution of complex engineering challenges.
  • Establish coding standards, testing strategies, documentation processes, and version control best practices.
  • Present technical strategy, project status, and key risks to executive leadership.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in embedded software, controls engineering, or embedded hardware development.
  • 2+ years of technical leadership, engineering management, or people leadership experience.
  • Strong expertise in one or more of the following:
  • Embedded firmware development using C/C++
  • Model-based controls design using MATLAB/Simulink
  • Embedded hardware design
  • Experience managing engineers, including coaching, mentoring, performance management, and career development.
  • Working knowledge of power electronics and energy storage systems.
  • Experience with:
  • DC-DC and DC-AC power conversion
  • Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)
  • Battery management, charging, and protection systems
  • Familiarity with embedded communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet/TCP-IP.
  • Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with contract engineering resources or offshore/OEM partners.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Background in power electronics, renewable energy, battery systems, or energy storage products.
  • Experience supporting products from concept through manufacturing and production release.
