Job Summary
On behalf of our U.S.-based client in the Travel & Hospitality Technology sector, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a Build Tooling team responsible for mission-critical infrastructure, custom tools, and shared libraries that allow application teams to quickly and dependably deliver software to their customers. This team plays a critical role in accelerating software delivery by providing scalable tools and platforms that help engineering teams release applications to production safely and efficiently. We’re looking for an engineer with 8+ years of hands-on software development experience, a strong understanding of CI/CD processes and tools, and a desire to keep learning. The role is entirely remote and is available under multiple engagement options, including full-time employment, part-time assignments, and contract-based engagements.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with a team of engineers in a collaborative software development process to achieve team goals
- Build and maintain software to abstract build, release, and deploy events for use by dozens of development organizations
- Understand the needs of thousands of developers using the team’s software, and actively and measurably improve their experience
- Work directly with application development teams to determine needs and implement CI/CD best practices
- Lead the development of critical features, ensuring they meet user needs and are fit for purpose
- Support critical build and artifact storage systems for the entire organization
- Participate in the on-call rotation, supporting systems and services during production incidents
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, with 8+ years overall hands-on software development experience preferred
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Python, Java, C++, C, or C#
- Familiarity with scripting in Bash/PowerShell
- Understanding of a modern collaborative SDLC and experience with workflows such as Scrum, Kanban, GitOps, Monorepos, Microservices, and Feature Flagging
- Experience working with version-controlled environments and CI/CD workflows, including setting up and maintaining pipelines with at least one of GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Jenkins, Argo, or SonarQube
- In-depth knowledge of Linux, including file systems, user and group management, process control, permission schemes, and SSH key management
- Hands-on experience with AWS core services (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, etc.), with understanding of the wider AWS ecosystem and other cloud providers desirable
- Experience with Docker for building, running, and debugging containerized applications
- Operational knowledge of Kubernetes and Helm for deploying workloads via manifests or Helm charts
- Experience provisioning and managing infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with remote team members
- Knowledge of modern AI-assisted software development practices, with the ability to effectively utilize AI tools to optimize coding, testing, debugging, and deployment processes.
- Interest in applying AI-assisted development tools to build, release, and CI/CD tooling workflows
- This is an individual contributor role with technical leadership responsibilities; candidates should demonstrate the ability to lead development of critical features and work directly with application development teams to drive adoption of best practices
- Experience supporting critical build and artifact storage systems for a large organization
- Experience participating in on-call rotations and supporting production incidents
- Experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code environments at scale
- Familiarity with measuring and improving developer experience across large engineering organizations
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience
- 8+ years of relevant hands-on experience in software development, with strong CI/CD exposure
- Experience working successfully within remote, distributed teams, with the ability to independently prioritize tasks and consistently deliver quality results.
