About Our Client

Our client is a rapidly growing advanced technology company developing intelligent software and autonomy solutions for complex real-world environments. Their platform combines artificial intelligence, simulation, sensor integration, machine learning, and autonomous systems to support next-generation capabilities across aerospace, defense, robotics, maritime, and unmanned systems applications.

Working at the forefront of autonomy and perception, the organization partners with government and commercial customers to solve challenging operational problems through sophisticated software, high-performance computing, and multi-sensor systems.

The company maintains a highly collaborative engineering culture with a strong emphasis on rapid innovation, deployment, and real-world mission impact.

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Perception & Sensor Fusion Engineer to help design and deliver advanced sensing and autonomy capabilities across a diverse portfolio of autonomous platforms operating in air, land, maritime, and space environments.

This position will focus on building real-time perception systems that combine information from multiple sensor sources to support autonomous decision-making and mission execution. The successful candidate will work across software development, algorithm design, sensor integration, machine learning deployment, testing, and operational demonstrations.

You will collaborate closely with perception, autonomy, tracking, platform, and systems engineering teams to deploy scalable solutions capable of operating in challenging and dynamic environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy advanced perception and sensor fusion algorithms for autonomous systems.
  • Build software interfaces that enable automated control and coordination of heterogeneous sensor suites.
  • Integrate information from multiple sensing modalities to improve situational awareness and mission effectiveness.
  • Develop and adapt machine learning solutions to support perception and decision-making pipelines.
  • Collaborate with autonomy and tracking teams to deliver integrated capabilities across distributed autonomous platforms.
  • Deploy and optimize software for embedded Linux environments and edge computing systems.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and computer-in-the-loop testing activities.
  • Conduct performance analysis and validation using operational and simulated data.
  • Participate in integration exercises, field testing events, and customer demonstrations.
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand mission requirements and translate operational needs into technical solutions.
  • Develop simulation environments and playback tools to evaluate sensor performance and autonomy behaviors.
  • Analyze test results and implement continuous improvements across perception and fusion systems.
  • Document technical approaches, software implementations, and system performance to support internal teams and external partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing sensor processing, perception, tracking, or fusion solutions within operational environments.
  • Hands-on experience working with multiple sensor types, including combinations of:
  • Electro-Optical (EO)
  • Infrared (IR)
  • LiDAR
  • Radar
  • Acoustic Systems
  • RF Sensors
  • Sonar
  • Strong understanding of sensor characteristics, measurement uncertainty, and sensor management concepts.
  • Experience developing, training, and deploying machine learning models using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Experience integrating ML models into production software environments using C++, ONNX, or similar deployment frameworks.
  • Solid background in object tracking, state estimation, multi-sensor fusion, and perception algorithms.
  • Strong Linux development experience.
  • Familiarity with containerized deployments and Docker-based workflows.
  • Ability to manage large datasets and adapt quickly to new technologies and technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
