Location: Bristol

Salary: Up to £65,000 depending on experience

Working Model: Onsite working (can do condensed 4 day working week)

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Software Project Leader to join a leading defence engineering organisation developing advanced command and control software for complex, mission-critical systems.

This is a technically focused leadership role where you'll combine hands-on software expertise with project ownership, helping to shape the architecture and ongoing development of software solutions used across multiple high-profile products. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, driving delivery while remaining involved in the technical detail.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing technical leadership across software development projects.
• Supporting the design and evolution of command and control software architectures.
• Overseeing software development, integration and delivery activities.
• Managing technical challenges, priorities and stakeholder expectations.
• Collaborating with engineering teams to deliver robust, high-quality software solutions.

We're looking for candidates with:

• Strong commercial experience developing software using C++.
• A solid software engineering background with an understanding of how software impacts wider systems.
• Previous experience leading technical software projects or teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate technical activities across multiple stakeholders.
• A collaborative approach with strong communication skills.
• Experience with software quality standards such as DO-178C, IEC61508, Def Stan 00-55 or coding standards including MISRA C++ would be beneficial but is not essential.
