Platform Architect - SRE
Indexed description
At TechnologyOne, our mission is simple: to simplify life for our customers and help them thrive in a world that's always evolving. As we continue to expand, we're excited to welcome an experienced Platform Architect to our Brisbane team.
This role offers the chance to be part of an innovative technology company where you'll contribute to products that make a real difference for businesses and communities. You'll be working in an environment that values creativity, collaboration, and practical solutions, where complex challenges are solved with simplicity and clarity.
We are looking for a senior Platform Architect to help shape the technical direction of our container platform, Kubernetes clusters, and CI/CD ecosystem - working alongside existing architects to strengthen and evolve our platform capabilities. This is a high-impact role that blends hands-on engineering with architectural guidance - you'll contribute to standards, design patterns, and also get into the weeds building and improving the systems that underpin how we deliver software. As we modernise our pipelines and embrace AI-driven development, this role will be central to driving that evolution forward.
You'll sit within our Service Engineering team, working across platform, SRE, and delivery teams to advance our cloud-native platform capabilities and drive the modernisation of our CI/CD ecosystem.
What you'll be doing:
- Contribute to the evolution of our container platform - working with the existing architecture team on cluster lifecycle, scaling patterns, and upgrade strategies.
- Help shape the architectural direction of our CI/CD ecosystem - pipeline design, build infrastructure, artifact management, and deployment automation - with a focus on modernisation and AI-driven development workflows.
- Design and maintain Helm charts, deployment patterns, and infrastructure-as-code to ensure consistent, repeatable, and secure delivery across environments.
- Provide architectural guidance to teams modernising applications for containerised deployment, defining patterns for migration and cloud-native adoption.
- Partner with SRE and delivery teams to ensure platform reliability, observability, and operational readiness across our cluster estate.
- Establish and enforce platform engineering standards, golden-path templates, and best practices for container orchestration and pipeline design.
- Mentor and guide engineers across Service Engineering and delivery teams, lifting platform engineering capability across the organisation.
- Evaluate, recommend, and introduce new tooling and approaches to keep our platform and CI/CD stack modern, efficient, and aligned with industry best practice.
- Drive hands-on engineering work - writing code, building tooling, debugging complex cluster and pipeline issues, and contributing directly to the platform codebase.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to engineering leadership on platform investment decisions, modernisation roadmaps, and architectural trade-offs.
Your Talents…
- 10+ years' experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, or distributed systems engineering.
- Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production - cluster operations, networking, storage, scaling, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Experience owning CI/CD strategy and pipeline architecture at an organisational level - designing build systems, not just consuming them.
- Solid experience with Helm, Terraform, and infrastructure-as-code practices for managing production environments.
- Proven ability to define platform strategy and architectural standards while remaining hands-on with implementation.
- A polyglot systems engineer comfortable writing production-grade tooling and platform automation across languages such as Go, Python, Rust, or C/C++.
- Extensive experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS preferred), including core services and architectural patterns.
- Experience guiding application teams through containerisation and cloud-native modernisation.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to set direction and guide teams without direct authority.
- A pragmatic engineering mindset - able to balance architectural ideals with delivery realities.
- Experience working in enterprise software or SaaS environments.
- Upstream open-source contribution or community involvement is highly regarded.
Benefits…
- Competitive remuneration package
- Industry leading employee share plan
- Amazing Culture: 8 x Australian Business Awards "Employer of Choice" winner
- We love our team events & celebrate diversity
