Envoy is a high-performance open-source HTTP proxy written in C++. It serves as the data plane for Google front end, internal load balancing, video streaming, app engine proxies, and API Gateways. It is also the foundation for agentic networking at Google Cloud.
The team’s mission is to ensure Envoy remains the HTTP proxy for all of Google, its customers, the entire GCP ecosystem, and the OSS community, while driving and solidifying its adoption as the premier proxy for AI-specific workloads, and providing strong, collaborative leadership of its open-source community.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
US: $174000 - $252000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

- Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Contribute to maintaining the scalability, stability, and security of Envoy that is required by the large-scale deployment at Google and expected by our OSS community.
- Be a leader in the OSS Envoy community (e.g., provide critical code reviews, participate in discussions and provide advice, become a maintainer).
