Job Summary
We are looking for a talented, and highly motivated engineer who will be responsible for bringing new products to market reality whilst ensuring high levels of quality to current products. Come join a team of deeply knowledgeable engineers that strive to build the most robust and reliable motion control systems using cutting-edge development tools and practices. The selected engineer will be focused on developing and maintaining the multi-platform Motion control libraries delivered together with our products. These libraries simplify the commissioning of the system by providing high level abstraction layers and advanced diagnostic functions (i.e. Motor identification and tuning using Bode Plots and Pole-placement, Feedbacks calibration, etc.)
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a set of Communication libraries
- Develop and maintain a set of Motion Control libraries, including advanced identification algorithms and tuning tools
- Develop and maintain Graphical User Interfaces to simplify the commissioning of the servo-drivers
- Make performance and optimization trade-offs to meet product requirements
- Write internal documentation for Novanta Motion software platforms (architecture, detailed design, etc.).
- Work closely with the Firmware team to improve Novanta Motion products and software solutions.
- Define, together with the Quality Assurance team, test plans for Novanta Motion software products.
- BSc, MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Minimum experience: 2+ years Skills and Competencies Minimum requirements:
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Motion control knowledge (motor types, feedback sensors, controls, etc.).
- Experience in source code control for software development (i.e. Subversion, Git, etc).
- Experience with software testing methodologies and automated testing practices.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
- Personal Interest in the Robotics / Motion Control field.
- Fluent written and spoken Spanish and English.
- Capacity to analyze a problem from multiple perspectives and explore creative solutions
- Self-motivated with strong drive to achieve business objectives
- Positive, proactive, and energetic attitude
- High attention to detail with a desire for excellence
- Industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, CANOpen)
- Experience developing desktop applications using Qt, PyQt, PySide, or similar technologies.
- Experience developing cross-platform software applications for Windows and Linux environments.
- Previous experience in motion control, robotics, lab or medical automation markets will be highly appreciated.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to understand and communicate complex ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
