Hardware Engineering Manager
Indexed description
We're not looking to fill a seat — we're looking for a rockstar Hardware Engineering Manager who can take full ownership of our worldwide hardware product line and hold it to a standard most teams never reach.
In this role, you'll own the engineering direction of our hardware product line end-to-end — setting the bar on reliability and manufacturability, and pushing our 3rd-party manufacturing partners to meet it, not the other way around.
The Hardware Engineering Manager reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer, Energy, with direct visibility into the executive team.
This role is based in Schenectady, NY — hands-on, in the room where hardware decisions actually get made.
This role requires working onsite from our Schenectady, NY office five days per week.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Own the engineering direction of our hardware product line worldwide — no exceptions on reliability, manufacturability, or field performance in any market we ship to.
- Design, build, and maintain the firmware integration bridging our hardware and platform — you write the code, not just review someone else's.
- Lead and grow a hardware team, setting a technical bar high enough that the best engineers want to clear it
- Go toe-to-toe with 3rd-party manufacturing partners and contract manufacturers — validate designs, hunt down root causes in the field, and don't stop until the fix actually holds
- Management experience — must have
- A true hands-on engineer — mechanical, electrical, firmware —must, who's validated real hardware in the real world, not just on a spec sheet
- Serious embedded firmware chops (C/C++ or equivalent) — must, comfortable debugging at the register level when it counts
- Experience with EV charging and/or unattended payment hardware systems — a significant advantage
- A track record of taking hardware from prototype to production and owning every messy step in between
- EV charging or unattended-payment hardware experience — bonus points if you've shipped in this space before
- Battle-tested experience working with contract manufacturers / EMS partners
- Experience mentoring or leading other engineers — we want someone who raises the bar for everyone around them
- The base salary range for this position is $115,000-$130,000 per year
- Eligibility for an annual performance bonus and additional benefits.
- Final compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
- Own mission-critical hardware products that power EV charging and payment solutions deployed across global markets.
- Lead with real influence, working directly with executive leadership and helping shape the future of our Energy business.
- Tackle complex engineering challenges spanning hardware, firmware, manufacturing, quality, and field performance.
- Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team while setting the technical standards that define product excellence.
- Join a global fintech leader where innovation, ownership, and execution are recognized, valued, and rewarded.
