Lead Software Engineer

You will build and lead the development of systems that connect ERP, production, and logistics, enabling a seamless order-to-delivery flow.

Introduction

Smartoptics is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to drive the digitalization and automation of our supply chain and manufacturing operations.

You will build and lead the development of systems that connect ERP, production, and logistics, enabling a seamless order-to-delivery flow. This includes shaping our Manufacturing Execution System (MES) layer and introducing AI-driven automation across operational workflows.

This is a high-impact role at the intersection of software engineering, supply chain, and production, where your work will directly influence how we plan, build, and deliver our products.

What you'll do

Build & Automate Core Operations

  • Design and develop systems that automate the end-to-end flow from order to delivery
  • Integrate ERP, logistics, and internal platforms into scalable workflows
  • Eliminate manual processes and improve operational transparency

Shape Manufacturing Systems (MES)

  • Lead the development of an MES layer on top of our ERP system
  • Enable production tracking, work order orchestration, and traceability
  • Deliver real-time visibility into manufacturing performance

Drive AI & Digitalization

  • Implement AI-driven solutions for automation, monitoring, and decision support
  • Leverage modern development tools and AI-assisted workflows
  • Build data pipelines and dashboards for operational insights

Lead Architecture & Development

  • Define system architecture across ERP, MES, and external applications
  • Align solutions with other software teams across Smartoptics
  • Guide technical decisions and ensure scalable, future-proof systems

Lead & Mentor

  • Coordinate development efforts across supply chain-related systems
  • Mentor engineers and promote best practices in development and architecture
  • Collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Production Engineering, IT, and partners

What you bring

  • Strong backend development experience (Python and/or C#/.NET)
  • Solid experience designing and working with REST APIs
  • Experience building APIs and integrating distributed systems
  • Solid understanding of databases (SQL, MongoDB or similar)
  • Experience with system architecture and technical leadership
  • Interest in automation, AI, and digital transformation
  • Strong understanding and use of AI tools like Cursor AI, Claude AI
  • Experience with ERP or manufacturing-related systems (ERP, MES, logistics, or production systems) is beneficial
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and containerized applications is beneficial
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent in English
