Position: Engineering Lead

Legal Entity: MarketVector Indexes

Location: Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Reporting to: Co-Head, Technology

Position Summary:

MarketVector Indexes GmbH — the international index company of VanEck and a leading provider of equity, thematic, digital asset, and multi-asset benchmarks — is seeking an Engineering Lead for our Technology department in Frankfurt am Main. In this role, you will lead and mentor a hands-on engineering team that designs, builds, and operates the platforms behind our global equity, bond, digital asset, and custom indexes, including real-time data pipelines, index calculation engines, and client-facing APIs. You will own the architecture and roadmap of our internal and external platforms — including integrations between tools, data systems, and our public-facing website — and be accountable for system reliability, security, scalability, and code quality across the SDLC. Working closely with colleagues in IT, Index Research, Operations, Product, Marketing, and Legal, you will coordinate across Frankfurt and New York, as well as with external consultants, to deliver production-grade services that meet stringent index governance standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of backend, frontend, and full-stack developers.
  • Support team growth through hiring, onboarding, training, and career development.
  • Facilitate daily standups, technical planning sessions, and sprint execution.
  • Provide constructive code reviews and promote engineering excellence.

Technical Ownership

  • Contribute to and execute the technical strategy defined with the Co-Head of Technology.
  • Make architectural and design decisions for applications, microservices, and platform services.
  • Ensure best practices in coding, testing, monitoring, and deployment across Python-based and containerized environments.
  • Evaluate new technologies, tools, and frameworks to support growth and innovation.

Platform Strategy & Integration

  • Define and drive the roadmap for our internal and external platforms — including data applications, tooling integrations, and the public-facing website.
  • Design and oversee integrations between internal tools, third-party services, and the MarketVector website (APIs, webhooks, data feeds, and authentication flows).
  • Coordinate the development of microservices that bridge internal systems and external platforms.
  • Lead the design and delivery of frontend experiences using micro-frontend architecture, enabling independent deployment and composition of UI modules across platforms.
  • Ensure platform architecture supports scalability, modularity, and long-term maintainability on Azure.

Delivery & Execution

  • Own the end-to-end delivery of software features and projects.
  • Break down complex requirements into actionable tasks.
  • Identify technical risks early and provide solutions.
  • Ensure development outputs meet performance, security, and reliability standards.

Process & Quality

  • Establish and refine engineering processes (code review, testing, CI/CD, documentation).
  • Support DevOps and QA teams in improving automation and release processes, including Docker-based build and deployment pipelines.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, reliability, and accountability.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the Co-Head of Technology for technical alignment.
  • Partner with Product/Project Management and other teams to deliver roadmaps effectively.
  • Translate technical concepts into clear communication for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with DevOps, Data, and Architecture leads to ensure system consistency. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Qualifications

Required

  • 6+ years of hands-on development experience (backend, frontend, or full-stack).

  • Strong understanding of software design patterns, architecture, and system design.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services (e.g., ADF, Azure Functions, App Services, APIM, AKS, or equivalent).
  • Practical experience with Docker and containerization; familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes or similar).
  • Experience designing and building microservices and data applications.
  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, or Angular) and familiarity with micro-frontend architecture (e.g., module federation, single-spa, or similar patterns).
  • Proven ability to architect integrations between internal tools, third-party services, and web platforms.
  • Solid knowledge of Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and clients.
  • Dedicated team player.
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and striving for excellence and proactively seeking areas to improve.
  • Passionate about technology and how it evolves.

Preferred

  • Experience with Azure-native data services (Synapse Analytics, ADLS Gen2, ADF pipelines).
