The Opportunity
We are partnering with an established technology organization to hire a Senior Engineering Leader - Software Development who can build strong teams, guide technical direction, and deliver dependable commercial software. This is a product-development position rather than a corporate IT role. The successful candidate will lead engineers and engineering leaders supporting a software platform used in healthcare environments.
The Five Most Important Qualifications
- Software Engineering Leadership: Proven success managing software engineers, technical leads, and engineering managers while developing high-performing teams.
- Microsoft Technology Stack: Strong background with C#, .NET, Azure, and modern Microsoft-based web or desktop application development.
- Commercial Product Development: Experience delivering customer-facing software products in a SaaS, software product, or R&D environment rather than supporting only internal systems.
- Agile Delivery and Continuous Improvement: A record of improving software quality, engineering practices, delivery speed, and team performance through practical Agile methods.
- Cross-Functional and Technical Leadership: Ability to partner with Product, Architecture, QA, DevOps, Security, and executive stakeholders while guiding technical priorities and delivery.
- Lead, coach, and develop software engineers, technical leads, and engineering managers.
- Oversee planning and delivery for new product features, platform enhancements, and sustaining development.
- Partner with Product Management, Architecture, QA, DevOps, and other stakeholders to define priorities, scope, timelines, and resource needs.
- Guide technical decision-making to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable.
- Establish engineering standards and promote practices that improve code quality, software performance, and delivery consistency.
- Recruit, onboard, retain, and develop strong engineering talent.
- Improve Agile delivery practices, development workflows, engineering metrics, and team productivity.
- Balance new product work with customer-impacting issues, technical debt, and ongoing product support.
- Manage staffing plans, project budgets, external partners, and engineering resources.
- Provide clear status updates, identify delivery risks, and remove barriers affecting team performance.
- Contribute to the long-term technology roadmap and align engineering priorities with business goals.
- Create a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 12 or more years of experience in software engineering, software product development, or a digital R&D environment.
- At least 8 years of experience managing, coaching, or developing software engineers.
- Demonstrated experience leading software development teams responsible for customer-facing commercial products.
- Strong experience with C#, .NET, Azure, and Microsoft full-stack development environments.
- Working knowledge of modern web, cloud, and desktop application development.
- Experience with Agile development methods and software delivery process improvement.
- Proven success hiring and retaining technical talent and leading across functions.
- Experience supporting secure software development, cybersecurity risk assessment, threat modeling, or risk mitigation.
- Ability to travel occasionally for customer visits or team meetings.
- Must currently reside in the Continental United States.
- Healthcare technology, medical device, clinical software, or another regulated-industry background.
- Advanced technical or engineering degree.
- Software security training or certification.
- Agile or Scrum certification.
- Experience with WPF or related Microsoft desktop technologies.
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering productivity practices.
- Current residence in the Eastern or Central time zone.
- 100% remote position within the Continental United States.
