join a boutique energy trading hedge fund in Sydney that's looking to hire a Software Engineer into a genuinely high-impact role.

This isn't a large corporate engineering team. You'd be joining as only the second software engineer, working directly alongside traders, analysts and the Head of Technology (a highly regarded UK engineer) to build the software that powers real-time trading across the Australian and New Zealand energy markets.

The tech stack isn't the latest shiny framework in every area, but the team is exceptionally smart, pragmatic and genuinely engineering-led. They're looking for someone with around 4-6 years of experience who's technically strong, enjoys solving real business problems and wants plenty of autonomy.

The role

You'll have end-to-end ownership across a broad range of systems including:

• C# / .NET / WPF desktop applications used by traders throughout the day
• Backend services, APIs and Azure data pipelines
• SQL development across business-critical market databases
• Dashboards, reporting and market analytics
• Integrations with market data feeds and pricing systems
• AI-assisted workflows using LLMs, agents and MCP servers to automate operational and research tasks

This is a business-facing engineering role where you'll work directly with the people using the software every day.

What they're looking for

• Around 4+ years building production software
• Strong engineering fundamentals (clean code, testing, debugging, CI/CD)
• C#/.NET experience, or another strong backend language with the ability to learn quickly
• Strong SQL skills
• Experience supporting production systems
• Good communication skills and an interest in working closely with end users

Nice to have

• WPF or desktop application development
• Python
• Azure (AWS/GCP also fine)
• AI tooling, LLMs, agents or MCP
• Financial markets, commodities or energy experience (not essential)

The package

• Sydney based
• Hybrid (typically 2-3 days in the office)
• $150,000-$200,000 package depending on experience
• Significant performance bonus on top
