How to Apply

Position Overview

We are seeking a Technical Lead to serve as the engineering anchor and ultimate technical decision-maker for an established development team. In this role, you will provide strong technical guidance, drive system performance improvements, and champion engineering excellence across a C# .NET ecosystem.

You will balance hands-on development with high-level technical leadership—tackling complex architectural challenges, refactoring code for peak optimization, and mentoring fellow developers. As part of the core software engineering team, you will shape next-generation aviation services across dispatch, flight scheduling, tracking, documentation, and weather operations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Technical Direction: Establish robust engineering practices, manage technical debt, evaluate technical trade-offs, and define architectural direction across the C#/.NET ecosystem.
  • Performance Tuning & Refactoring: Proactively identify bottlenecks and lead code refactoring initiatives to maximize performance across legacy .NET Framework (Windows), modern .NET Core applications, and SQL databases.
  • End-to-End Feature Delivery: Drive complex technical features independently from architectural design through deployment, ensuring alignment with broader business goals.
  • Engineering Excellence & AI Integration: Establish operational standards, conduct thorough code reviews, and mentor the team on the adoption of AI-powered tools and modern software engineering practices.
  • Mentorship & Culture: Guide the professional growth of junior and intermediate engineers, fostering a collaborative, highly engaged engineering culture.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary technical voice for the team, translating complex architectural concepts to both technical members and non-technical business stakeholders.

Must Haves

  • Experience: 7+ years of professional software development experience using .NET and C# (or equivalent technologies).
  • Leadership: Proven track record of providing technical guidance, leading software engineering teams, and making critical architectural decisions.
  • System Optimization: Deep, hands-on experience in code optimization, system performance tuning, refactoring complex codebases, and SQL relational database optimization.
  • Production Support: Demonstrated expertise diagnosing, debugging, and resolving software issues in live production environments.
  • Communication: Exceptional technical communication skills with a proven ability to present ideas to both technical peers and business executives.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Language: Professional fluency in English.

Nice to Haves

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Direct hands-on experience working within AWS cloud environments.

Compensation & Work Model

  • Salary Range: $110,000 – $130,000 CAD (commensurate with experience)
  • Bonus Structure: 10% annual bonus target
  • Work Model: Hybrid (3 days in-office / 2 days remote)
  • Location: Waterloo, ON (David Johnston Research + Technology Park — free parking available)

Benefits & Perks

  • Financial & Savings: RRSP matching program, access to Employee Share Scheme, referral bonus program.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive group benefits plan, dedicated mental health support, Fitness & Wellness reimbursement, life insurance.
  • Time Off & Flexibility: Flexible work schedules, 15–20 vacation days, summer core hours, company Christmas shutdown, paid sick/personal days, plus professional development days.
  • Growth & Mentorship: Maternity/Paternity leave top-up, ongoing training/development support, and monthly Lunch & Learns.
  • Culture & Office Culture: Active social and diversity/inclusion committees, game room (including a flight simulator!), organized volunteer events, casual dress code, and strong work-life balance.
