Systems Specialist

At ASB, our Payments platforms sit at the heart of how New Zealanders pay, shop and transact every day. We're looking for a Systems Engineer to join our Payments Platform, working across the Cards Core, Cards COE and Shield squads.

This is an opportunity to work on critical card payment systems that process millions of transactions, support strategic initiatives, and help shape the future of payments at ASB.

About The Role

As a Systems Engineer within the Payments Platform, you'll contribute to the delivery of technology change across ASB's card payments ecosystem. Working across multiple squads, you'll be involved in platform enhancements, system integrations, modernisation initiatives and engineering improvements that support the ongoing evolution of our card payments capability.

This is a highly collaborative role where you'll work closely with engineers, architects, vendors and business stakeholders to deliver solutions that are secure, reliable and scalable. You'll gain exposure to a broad range of technologies while helping to build and maintain systems that are critical to ASB and its customers.

What You'll Do

• Design, build and implement solutions that support strategic initiatives across the Cards domain
• Contribute to platform modernisation, system enhancements and technology refresh programmes
• Develop automation and tooling that improves delivery efficiency, platform reliability and operational effectiveness
• Work across application, infrastructure and integration components to deliver end-to-end solutions
• Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to deliver card payments initiatives and enhancements
• Support software releases, environment deployments and implementation activities
• Contribute to system design, technical analysis and solution delivery discussions
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical issues where required
• Ensure solutions align with security, risk, compliance and engineering standards
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across processes, tooling and technologies
• Share knowledge and collaborate across squads to uplift engineering practices
• Work within Agile delivery teams to deliver outcomes that improve customer and business experiences

• Experience working in systems engineering, platform engineering, application engineering or similar technical roles
• Experience delivering technology projects or platform enhancements within complex enterprise environments
• Strong understanding of application deployment, configuration and environment management
• Experience with scripting and automation technologies such as PowerShell, Bash or Python
• Experience working across Windows and Linux operating systems
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and modern engineering practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work across multiple technologies and stakeholders
• Experience working within Agile and DevOps delivery environments
• A collaborative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and learning

• Experience with Ansible, Azure DevOps, Azure Pipelines or Infrastructure as Code tooling
• Exposure to Kafka, Elastic or integration technologies
• Experience with Azure, AWS or other cloud platforms
• Knowledge of card payments, payment processing or financial services environments
• Experience working within highly regulated or mission-critical environments
